HP StorageWorks2000 Modular Smart ArrayController Module ReplacementInstructionsThis document details procedures for replacing a failedcontroller module in an HP StorageWorks 2012/2212Modular Smart Array (MSA2000).© Copyright 2008, 2010 Hewlett-Packard Development Company,L.P.Third edition: March 2010The information in this document is subject to change without notice.Printed in China.www.hp.com*488318-003*About this document• Illustrations in this document may show a controller module with aconnection interface that differs from your controller module. Replace-ment procedures are the same for all MSA2000 controller modules.• The Storage Management Utility (SMU) and the Command Line Inter-face (CLI) can be used to manage MSA2000–family enclosures.Tasks in this document demonstrate using the SMU.• For the latest product documentation, see the HP website at http://www.hp.com/support/manuals. Under the storage banner, navigateto the page for your storage enclosure. Before you beginObserve the following:CAUTION:• When replacing a controller in an operational controller en-closure, ensure that less than 10 seconds elapse between in-serting the controller into a slot and fully latching it in place.Failing to do so might cause the controller to fail. If it is notlatched within 10 seconds, remove the controller from the slotand repeat the process.• Removing a module from an operational enclosure significantlychanges air flow within the enclosure. Openings must bepopulated for the enclosure to cool properly. Leave modulesin the enclosure until a replacement is available.• Parts can be damaged by electrostatic discharge; use properanti-static protection. Keep parts in electrostatic containersuntil needed and ensure you are properly grounded whentouching static-sensitive components.IMPORTANT:When replacing both controllers in an operational enclosure,do as follows:1. Replace one controller as detailed in these instructions.2. Wait 30 minutes. This pause ensures that the two controllersand their ownership of the vdisks have enough time to fullystabilize.3. Examine system status and event logs to ensure that the systemis stable.4. Replace the other controller as detailed in these instructions.IMPORTANT:When two controllers are installed in an enclosure, they mustbe the same model. Mixing controller types in the sameenclosure is not supported.Page 1
