Aircraftwithout operating transponders are invisible to TIS-B. Aircraft operatingoutside of the ATC radar coverage area are also not displayed.Since the GDL 39 is a receive-only device, even when used onboard an aircraftequipped with a qualifying GPS and 1090 ES transponder, a GBT may not identify it asan ADS-B participating aircraft. The squitter of some 1090 ES transponders, includingthe Garmin GTX 330, must be configured to communicate that the aircraft has 978MHz receive capability in order to be identified as an ADS-B participating aircraft.WARNING: Do not rely solely upon the display of traffic information forcollision avoidance maneuvering. The traffic display does not providecollision avoidance resolution advisories and does not under anycircumstances or conditions relieve the pilot’s responsibility to see andavoid other aircraft.WARNING: Do not rely solely upon the display of traffic information toaccurately depict all of the traffic within range of the aircraft. Due to lackof equipment, poor signal reception, and/or inaccurate information fromaircraft or ground stations, traffic may be present that is not representedon the display.Viewing GDL 39 Traffic and Weather Status:1) From the Main Menu touch the Tools Icon.2) From the Tools menu touch Data Link.Or1) From the Main Menu touch the Weather Icon.2) Touch Menu > Information.Or1) From the Main Menu touch the Traffic Icon.2) Touch Menu > Info.
