References toMarine and Automotive modes, buttons, pages, and fields, arein parentheses for this section. All operating modes use datafrom the Jeppesen database and unit mapping database to findand navigate to waypoints, airports, aviation navigation aidslike VOR, NDB, intersections, cities, and recent finds. To findPoints of Interest (such as restaurants, lodging, and museums)and Marine Navigation Aids, you must download detailedmap data from Garmin MapSource®.1. Press DIRECT TO D for theGo To Page (Find Menu) or pressand hold DIRECT TO for theNearest Airport list (Recent Findslist).2. Use the ROCKER to select theAirport Identifier field (Waypointsicon), and then press ENTER.The Nearest Page list shows onlythose nearest to your currentlocation. Press MENU to view thelist of options.3. Use the ROCKER to scroll throughthe alphanumeric Identifier list untilthe desired airport (waypoint) isselected. Then press ENTER.4. Use the ROCKER to select Go Toat the bottom of the page. Thenpress ENTER to begin navigationto the airport, navigation aid,waypoint, or map item.Navigating to an AirportWhen using Go To to navigate, the GPSMAP 96/96C createsa direct to or course to the waypoint. The HSI Page uses theCourse Pointer, Bug Indicator, Compass Ring, and data fieldsto direct your navigation efforts.Course Pointer—indicates thedirection established in creatingthe course. If you deviate fromthe course, the center sectionof the Course Pointer indicatesdeviation from the course.Bug Indicator—guides youdirectly to your destination.Compass Ring—rotates toindicate directional orientationwhen you begin to move.Data Fields—contain selectable navigation information,such as speed, distance to go, or elapsed time.1. Press PAGE repeatedly to show the HSI.2. Press QUIT to show the Map Page and see yourprogress toward the waypoint. A course line appearson the map, and the Aircraft Symbol moves as youmove.3. Press QUIT again to move to the Position Page.This page shows data, such as fuel and flight timers,location, a trip odometer, and maximum speed.4.
