Start-Up and Satellite AcquisitionFind a location where you have a clear view of the sky. If you’restarting up for the first time or you have moved over 600 milessince last using the GPSMAP 60CSx, it must initialize (determineits location by searching for satellites that are in position over yourcurrent location.) Press the MENU key to use the Location optionfrom the Satellite Page Options Menu to mark your approximatelocation on the Map Page so it looks for only those satellites aboveyour location.1. Turn On the GPSMAP 60CSx by pressing and releasing thePOWER key. A Welcome Page will briefly appear beforemoving to the Satellite Page.2. Observe the Satellite Page and the GPS status messagesas they appear at the top of the page.• “Acquiring Satellites” message appears as the GPSmap60CSx begins to search for satellites overhead.• Your “Location Coordinates” display when four ormore satellites are fixed (enough to determine an ap-proximate elevation as well as ground location).Unit OperationKey FunctionBattery InstallationThe GPSMAP 60CSx operates on two “AA” batteries (not includ-ed), which are located in the back of the unit. Alkaline or NiMHbatteries may be used (see the Owner’s Manual for setting the bat-tery type). Stored data is not lost when the batteries are removed.Battery CompartmentUSE BY: 2009USE BY: 2009LockingPin Slot1. To remove the battery coverfrom the back of the unit,turn the D-Ring 1/4 turncounter-clockwise and thenpull the cover away.2. Insert the batteries, observ-ing the proper polarity.A polarity diagram can befound molded into the batterycompartment.3. Reinstall the battery cover byinserting the bottom slot overthe tab at the base of theunit and reinserting thelocking pin in the back of theunit.4. Turn the D-Ring 1/4 turnclockwise to lock the cover inplace.Battery CoverAdjustmentSliderPOWER/BACKLIGHT Key - Press and hold to turnunit On/Off. Press and release to adjust backlighting.IN/OUT Zoom Keys - From the Map Page, press tozoom in or out. From any other page, press toscroll up or down a list.FIND/MOB Key - Press and release at any time toview the Find Menu Page. Press and hold forMOB (Man Overboard) feature.MARK Key - Press and release at any time to markyour current location as a waypoint.QUIT Key - Press and release to cancel data entry orexit a page.PAGE/COMPASS Key - Press to cycle through themain pages. Press when using the on-screen key-board to close. Press and hold to turn electroniccompass On/Off.MENU Key - Press and release to view optionsfor a page. Press twice to view the Main Menu.ENTER Key - Press and release to enter highlightedoptions, data or confirm on-screen messages.ROCKER Key - Move Up/Down or Right/Left tomove through lists, highlight fields, on-screenbuttons, icons, enter data or move the map pan-ning arrow.If the GPSMAP 60CSx can’t get past the “Acquiring Satellites”message or you get a “Lost Satellite Signal” message, move to a newlocation away from objects that may be blocking signals.Satellite PageDisplays your location coordinates, position accuracy, a view of the satellitesoverhead, and bar graph showing the signal strength of each overhead satellite.Satellite PageOptions• Turn GPS Off• Orient displayto your directionof movement “TrackUp” or... “NorthUp” (as shown)• Change display colors• Use Map Page tomark your location• GPS ElevationStatus Bar3D GPSindicatorReceivedSatellite iconHeading Bug indi-cates your directionof movementOverheadSatellite notyet receivedAdjusting the BacklightingWhen lighting conditions may make it difficult to view theGPSMAP 60CSx display, turn on the backlighting and adjust it tothe desired level of brightness.Viewing the Main PagesThe Main Pages provide the information you need for basicnavigation using the GPSMAP 60CSx. Press the PAGE key repeat-edly to cycle from one Main Page to another.1. With the GPSMAP 60CSx On, press andrelease the POWER key to display theBacklight Adjustment Slider.2. Press and release the POWER key toincrease the brightness level.3. To close, press the ENTER key.The backlight is factory set to timeout in 15seconds, unless connected to an external powersource. Refer to Display Setup in the Owner’sManual to change the timeout period.Satellite Page - Provides reference for satellites being tracked.Trip Computer Page - Provides trip and navigation data.Map Page - Displays a map and references your movements.Compass Page - Provides guidance to a destination.Altimeter Page - Provides tracking of elevation and pressure.Main Menu - A directory of advanced features and settings.SatellitePageTrip ComputerPageMapPageCompassPageMainMenuD-RingAltimeterPageAltimeter and Compass CalibrationTo calibrate the Electronic Compass and Altimeter, see theOwner’s Manual.INOUTFINDPAGEMARKENTRQUITVVVVMENUWhen replacing batteries, use only newor fully charged batteries. Do not mixAlkaline and NiMH batteries. Recharge-able batteries may have less capacity thandisposable batteries.Extensive use of backlighting, WAAS andkey beep tones will significantly reducebattery life.The MicroSd Card used for storing detailedmapping data is located beneath thebatteries.
