Note: Using the screen back-lighting can greatly reducebattery life. If you’re usingyour GPS primarily in day-light hours, you should keepthe backlight timeout at thedefault 15-second setting.25ReferenceScreen BacklightingThe GPS II +’s backlight feature illuminates the screen display for a user-definedinterval (the default is 15 seconds) after every keystroke. There are three stages ofbacklighting. When backlighting is on, a bulb icon will appear at the bottom left of thesky view (Fig. 25). To adjust the duration of the screen backlighting, refer to the opera-tion setup section (see p. 75).To turn the screen backlighting on:1. Cycle through the three levels of backlight by pressing the red power key.To turn the screen backlighting off:1.
