Fishfinder 90/140 Owner’s Manual 13Installing Your FishfinderTesting the Transom MountInstallationPerform this test after you install the Fishfinder. Becauseyou need water to carry the sonar signal, the Fishfinderdoes not function properly with the transducer out of thewater. When you place your boat in the water, CHECK FORLEAKS around the screw holes that are below the waterline. DO NOT leave your boat in the water for an extendedperiod of time without checking for leaks. To test the transom mount installation:1. Begin testing the installation at a slow speed. If thesonar appears to be working properly gradually increasethe boat’s speed observing the sonar’s operation. Ifthe sonar signal suddenly is lost or the bottom return isseverely degraded, note the speed at which this occurs.2. Return the boat to the speed at which the signal waslost. Make moderate turns in both directions, and see ifthe signal improves.3. If the signal strength improves while turning, adjust thetransducer so that it extends another 1/8" below thetransom of the boat. It might take several adjustments toeliminate the degradation.4. If the signal does not improve, it might be necessary tomove the transducer to a different location.190-00582-10_0A.indd 13 12/2/2011 3:08:58 PM
