8Installation preparationIMpoRTANT(please read carefully.)The power cord of this appliance is equippedwith a three-prong (grounding) plug which mateswith a standard three-prong grounding wallreceptacle to minimize the possibility of electricshock. The customer should have the wallreceptacle and circuit checked by a qualifiedelectrician to make sure the receptacle isproperly grounded and has correct polarity.• Where a standard two-prong wall receptacleis encountered, it is the personal responsibilityand obligation of the customer to have itreplaced with a properly grounded three-prongwall receptacle.Do not, under any circumstances, cut or removethe third (ground) prong from the power cord.DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD.WARNING:FOR PERSONAL SAFETy, ThIS APPLIANCE MUSTbE PROPERLy GROUNDED.Remove house fuse or open circuit breaker beforebeginning installation.Do not use an extension cord or adapter plugwith this appliance. Follow National Electrical Codeor prevailing local codes and ordinances.This downdraft vent must be supplied with 120V,60 hz. and connected to an individual, properlygrounded branch circuit, protected by a 15-or 20-ampere circuit breaker or time-delay fuse.Gas cooktopsIf this vent is installed in combination with a GEor Monogram gas cooktop, it may operate fromthe same duplex outlet.electric cooktopsIf this vent is installed in combination with a GEor Monogram electric cooktop, the vent mustoperate from a separate 120V outlet.• A properly grounded 3-prong receptacle shouldbe located within reach of the vent’s two-footpower cord.• Locate the receptacle inside the cabinet on theright side wall.
