The use of undersized cookware will expose a portion of the surface unit to directcontact and may result in ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookware to surface unit willalso improve efficiency.■ Never leave the surface units unattended athigh heat settings. Boilovers cause smokingand greasy spillovers that may catch on fire.■ Only certain types of glass, glass ⁄ceramic,earthenware or other glazed containers aresuitable for cooktop service; others may breakbecause of the sudden change in temperature.■ To minimize the possibility of burns, ignitionof flammable materials and spillage, the handleof a container should be turned toward thecenter of the range without extending overnearby surface units.■ Always turn the surface units off beforeremoving cookware.■ Do not flame foods on the cooktop. If you doflame foods under the hood, turn the fan on.■ Use care when touching the cooktop.The glass surface of the cooktop will retainheat after the controls have been turned off.■ Keep an eye on foods being fried at high ormedium high heat settings.■ Foods for frying should be as dry as possible.Frost on frozen foods or moisture on freshfoods can cause hot fat to bubble up andover the sides of the pan.■ Use little fat for effective shallow or deepfat frying. Filling the pan too full of fat cancause spillovers when food is added.■ If a combination of oils or fats will be usedin frying, stir together before heating, oras fats melt slowly.■ Always heat fat slowly, and watch as it heats.■ Use a deep fat thermometer wheneverpossible to prevent overheating fat beyondthe smoking point.■ Avoid scratching the glass cooktop. Thecooktop can be scratched with items suchas sharp instruments, rings or other jewelry,and rivets on clothing.■ Large scratches or impacts to glass doors orcooktops can lead to broken or shattered glass.■ Do not operate the radiant surface units if theglass is broken. Spillovers or cleaning solutionmay penetrate a broken cooktop and create arisk of electrical shock. Contact a qualifiedtechnician immediately should your glasscooktop become broken.■ Never use the glass cooktop surface as acutting board.■ The surface units are automatically disabledduring the self-clean cycle. Make sure that allsurface unit controls are turned off at all timesduring the self-clean cycle. Any surface unitthat is set to an on position, while the self-cleancycle is operating, will automatically come onafter the self-clean cycle is finished, and couldresult in an on, unattended surface unit. Waituntil the self-clean cycle is finished to set anduse the surface units.■ Do not place or store items that can melt orcatch fire on the glass cooktop, even when itis not being used, or during the self-clean cycle.■ Be careful when placing spoons or otherstirring utensils on glass cooktop surface whenit is in use. They may become hot and couldcause burns.■ Clean the cooktop with caution. If a wetsponge or cloth is used to wipe spills on a hotsurface unit, be careful to avoid steam burns.Some cleaners can produce noxious fumes ifapplied to a hot surface.NOTE: We recommend that you avoid wiping anysurface unit areas until they have cooled and theindicator light has gone off. Sugar spills are theexception to this. Please see the Cleaning the glasscooktop section.■ When the cooktop is cool, use only theCeramic Cooktop Cleaner and the CeramicCooktop Cleaning Pad to clean the cooktop.■ To avoid possible damage to the cookingsurface, do not apply cleaning cream tothe glass surface when it is hot.■ After cleaning, use a dry cloth or paper towelto remove all cleaning cream residue.■ Read and follow all instructions and warningson the cleaning cream labels.■ Do not use plastic wrap to cover food.
