Safety Instructions Operating InstructionsSafety Instructions Operating Instructions Care and Cleaning Troubleshooting Tips Consumer Support19Using the self-cleaning oven. ge.comBefore a Clean CycleWe recommend venting your kitchenwith an open window or using aventilation fan or hood during thefirst self-clean cycle.Remove shelves, broiler pan, broilergrid, all cookware and any aluminumfoil from the oven.The shiny, silver-colored oven shelves(on some models) can be self-cleaned,but they will darken, lose their lusterand become hard to slide.Soil on the front frame of the rangeand outside the gasket on the doorwill need to be cleaned by hand. Cleanthese areas with hot water, soap-filled orplastic scouring pads or cleansers suchas Soft Scrub®. Rinse well with cleanwater and dry.Do not clean the gasket. The fiberglassmaterial of the oven door gasket cannotwithstand abrasion. It is essential for thegasket to remain intact. If you notice itbecoming worn or frayed, replace it.Wipe up any heavy spillovers on the ovenbottom.Make sure the oven light bulb cover is inplace and the oven light is off.IMPORTANT: The health of some birdsis extremely sensitive to the fumes givenoff during the self-cleaning cycle of anyrange. Move birds to another well-ventilated room.Wipe up heavy soil on the ovenbottom.How to Set the Oven for CleaningFollow the directions in the Before aClean Cycle section.Latch the door.NOTE: Never force the latch. If the oven istoo hot, you will not be able to slide thelatch. Allow the oven to cool.Touch the SELF CLEAN pad.Touch the + or – pads until thedesired Clean Time is displayed.The Clean Time is normally 4 hours and 20minutes. You can change the Clean Time to anytime between 3 and 5 hours, depending on theamount of soil in your oven.Touch the START/ON pad.The self-clean cycle will automaticallybegin after CLEAN is displayed and thetime countdown appears in the display.While the oven is self-cleaning, you cantouch the CLOCK pad to display the timeof day. To return to the clean countdown,touch the SELF CLEAN pad.The oven shuts off automatically whenthe clean cycle is complete, and 0:00 willflash in the display.Slide the latch handle to the left asfar as it will go and open the door.NOTE: Never force the latch handle. Forcing thehandle will damage the door lock mechanism.
