NEW appears in the display for calls received that have not beenreviewed. REPT appears in the display for calls received more than once whichhave not been reviewed.NOTE: Check with your local phone company regarding name service availability .Reviewing Caller ID RecordsAs calls are received and stored, the display is updated to let you know how manycalls have been received.• Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).• Press the Caller ID/vol ( + ) button to scroll through the call records from themost recent to the oldest.• Press the Caller ID/vol ( - ) button to scroll through the call records from theoldest to the newest.Dialing a Caller ID Number1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).2. Use the Caller ID/vol ( + or - ) button to display the desired Caller ID record.3. Press the TALK/call back button to dial the number.Deleting a Caller ID Record1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).2. When the Caller ID record shows in the display, press and release thedel/chan button. The display shows DELETE CALL ID?3. Press del/chan button again to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone, thedisplay shows DELETED.Ringer On/Off SwitchThe handset ringer switch may be set to ON or OFF. If the switch if OFF, the unitdoes not ring.Paging the HandsetThis feature helps to locate a misplaced handset.1. Press the page button on the base. The handset will beep for about two minutesand PAGING shows on the handsets displays.2. To cancel the page, press the talk/end/call back button on the handset or pressthe page button on the base.NOTE: You can still page the handset if the ringer is turned off.Channel ButtonWhile talking on the phone, you might need to manually change the channel inorder to reduce static caused by appliances, such as baby monitors, garage dooropeners, microwave ovens, or other cordless phones. Press and release the del/chan button to move to the next clear channel.Caller ID FeaturesCaller ID (CID) is a service available from your local telephone company. For CallerID to work on this system, you must subscribe to Caller ID service. To receiveCaller ID information for a Call Waiting call, you must subscribe to the combinedCaller ID Call Waiting service. The unit can store up to 40 calls for later review.When your telephone rings, and you are subscribed to Caller ID Call Waitingservice, you will receive information (if available) transmitted by your localtelephone company. You will also receive Caller ID information from Call Waitingcalls. If you receive an incoming call and you are already on the phone, a beepindicates the presence of a Call Waiting Call on the line, and Caller ID informationfor the Call Waiting call shows ONLY on the display and in the history of thehandset that is in use. This information may include the phone number, date andtime; or the name, phone number, and date and time.Ring SelectSet the RING SELECT switch on the back of the unit to choose the number of timesyou want the phone to ring before the system answers the call. You may choose 3rings, 5 ring or TOLL SAVER.Toll SaverThe toll saver is the final setting in the Rings to Answer menu. This feature allowsyou to know if you have new messages when calling the machine from a remotephone. If you have new messages, the unit will ring twice before answering. Ifyou don’t, it will ring five times. This allows you to hang up before the machineanswers so that you don’t have to pay toll charges.Cordless Phone BasicsMaking a Call1. Press the talk/end/call back button and dial the desired number.-OR-To perform preview dial, dial the number first then press the talk/end/call backbutton.2. To hang up, press the talk/end/call back button or place the handset in the cradle.Receiving a Call1. To answer a call press the talk/end/call back button on the handset before youbegin speaking.2. To hang up, press the talk/end/call back button or place the handset in the cradle.Call TransferDuring an external call, you may transfer the call to another handset.1. Press the trans/answerer button on originating handset. TRANSFERRING showsin the display. Both handsets will be paged.2. Press the trans/answerer or talk/end/call back button on the receiving handsetto answer the call.NOTE: To cancel the call transfer, you may press the *exit or the trans/answererbutton on the originating handset.Redial1. Press the talk/end/call back on the handset.2. Press the redial button to quickly dial the last number you called (up to 32digits).If you get a busy signal, and want to keep dialing the number, press redial to dialthe number again.In Use IndicatorThe phone is ON (in TALK mode) when the talk/end/call back indicator on the handsetand the charge/in use indicator on the base is lit. The handset and base indicatorsflash when you receive a call.FlashIf you subscribe to the combined Call Waiting Caller ID service from your localtelephone company you will receive Caller ID information (if available) on CallWaiting calls. During a phone call, you will hear a beep to indicate another callis waiting on the line and Caller ID information for the waiting call shows onthe handset display. To connect the waiting call, press the flash/prog button onthe handset and your original call is put on hold. You may switch back and forthbetween the two calls by pressing the flash/prog button.TIP: DO NOT use the talk/end/call back button to activate custom callingservices such as call waiting, or you’ll hang up the phone.VolumeWhen the phone is ON, press the Caller ID/vol ( + or - ) on the handset to adjustthe volume of the handset’s earpiece. There are four settings. Press the right arrowto increase the volume and left arrow to decrease the volume. You will see thevolume setting on the handset display. VOL 4 is the maximum and VOL 1 is theminimum.ExitPress the *exit button to cancel any command you initiated.MuteUse the format/mute button during a phone conversation to speak privately andoff-line with a third party.1. Press the format/mute button on the handset. MUTE shows in the display, andthe party on the telephone can not hear your external conversation.2. Press format/mute when finished.Plug the power adaptor cord into the power jack on the bottom of the base andthe other end into an electrical outlet. Plug the charge cradle into an electricaloutlet. The in use/charge indicator (on the base and charge cradle) turns on toindicate the battery is charging when the handset is on the cradle.Allow the phones to charge for 16 hours prior to first use. If you don’t properlycharge the phones, battery performance is compromised.CAUTION: Use only the ATLINKS USA, Inc. power adaptor 5-2512 (black)power adaptor that came with this unit. Using other power adaptors maydamage the unit.Connecting the Telephone Line1. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the jack on the bottom of the basecalled TEL LINE and the other end into your home’s modular phone jack.2. Set the ringer switch (on the handset) to ON, and place the handset in thecradle on the base.Wall MountingIf you want to mount the phone on a wall, slip the mounting holes (on the back ofthe base) over the wall plate posts, and slide the unit down into place. (Wall platenot included.)Telephone Jack RequirementsTo use this phone, you need an RJ11C type modulartelephone jack, which might look like the one pictured here,installed in your home. If you don’t have a modular jack,call your local phone company to find out how to get oneinstalled.Digital Security SystemYour cordless phone uses a digital security system to protect against false ringing,unauthorized access, and charges to your phone line.When you place the handset in the base, the unit verifies its security code. Aftera power outage or battery replacement, you should place the handset in the basefor about 20 seconds to reset the code.INSTALLATION NOTE: Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies thatmay cause or receive interference with nearby TVs, microwave ovens, and VCRs.To minimize or prevent such interference, the base of the cordless telephoneshould not be placed near or on top of a TV, microwave oven, or VCR. If suchinterference continues, move the cordless telephone farther away from theseappliances. Certain other communications devices may also use the 5.8 GHzfrequency for communication, and, if not properly set, these devices may5.8 GHz Call WaitingCaller ID Cordless Dual HandsetTelephone/Answering SystemUser’s Guide25861Equipment Approval InformationYour telephone equipment is approved for connection to the Public Switched TelephoneNetwork and is in compliance with parts 15 and 68, FCC Rules and Regulations and theTechnical Requirements for Telephone Terminal Equipment published by ACTA.1 Notification to the Local Telephone CompanyOn the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among other information, theUS number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for the equipment. You must,upon request, provide this information to your telephone company.The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you may connect to yourtelephone line and still have all of these devices ring when your telephone numberis called. In most (but not all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connectedto one line should not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices you mayconnect to your line as determined by the REN, you should contact your localtelephone company.A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring andtelephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules andrequirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modularplug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connected to a compatiblemodular jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions for details.Notes• This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by the telephonecompany.• Party lines are subject to state tariffs, and therefore, you may not be able to use yourown telephone equipment if you are on a party line. Check with your local telephonecompany.• Notice must be given to the telephone company upon permanent disconnection ofyour telephone from your line.interfere with each other and/or your new telephone. If you are concernedwith interference, please refer to the owner’s manual for these devices on howto properly set channels to avoid interference. Typical devices that may use the5.8 GHz frequency for communication include wireless audio/video senders,wireless computer networks, multi-handset cordless telephone systems, and somelong-range cordless telephone systems.Important Installation Information• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.• Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specificallydesigned for wet locations.• Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephoneline has been disconnected at the network interface.• Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.• Temporarily disconnect any equipment connected to the phone such as faxes,other phones, or modems.Installing the PhoneYour cordless telephone/answering system should be placed on a level surfacesuch as a desk or table top, or you can mount the base on a wall.Installing the Handset BatteryNOTE: You must connect the handset battery before use.1. Locate battery and battery door which are packaged together inside a plasticbag and are separate from the handset.2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the handset.3. Plug the battery pack cord into the jack inside the compartment.NOTE: It is important to maintain the polarity (black and red wires) to the jackinside the compartment. To ensure proper battery installation, the connector iskeyed and can be inserted only one way.Telephone SetupRegistrationYOU MUST REGISTER BOTH HANDSETS TO THE MAIN BASE BEFORE USE!a) 1st handset - The 1st handset being charged on the main base station willautomatically register after 16 hours of charging.b) 2nd handset - After the 2nd handset has charged for 16 hours on the extra charger,place it on the main base station for 20 seconds, it will then automatically register.NOTE: “PLEASE REGISTER” will show on the display if the handsets have notbeen registered. Once the handsets have completed registration successfully,“HANDSET 1” and “HANDSET 2” will show on the handset’s display.NOTE: In case of a power failure, the handsets may display “UNAVAILABLE”when the talk/end/call back button is pressed. You must then place bothhandsets on the main base cradle for 20 seconds to re-register.Programmable MenusThere are four programmable menus available: Language, Local Area Code, RingerTone and Factory Default. When you program these settings, make sure the phoneis OFF (not in talk mode). Pressing the *exit button will remove you from the menuselection process without changing the feature you are in.Display Language1. Press the flash/prog button until 1ENG 2FRA 3ESP shows in the display.2. Use the Caller ID/vol ( + or - ) button or the handset number pad to select 1(English), 2 (French), or 3 (Spanish). The default setting is “1ENG”.3. Press the flash/prog button to confirm and to advance to the next menu feature.Local Area CodeIf you enter your local 3-digit area code in the area code menu, your local areacode does not display on the Caller ID (CID) list. Instead, you only see the local7-digit number. Calls received from outside your local area code will display thefull 10-digit number.1. Press the flash/prog button until AREA CODE - - - shows in the display. Thedefault setting is “- - -”.2. Use the handset number pad to enter your 3-digit area code.NOTE: If you make a mistake, press the del/chan button to erase the incorrectarea code and repeat step 2.3. Press the flash/prog button to confirm and to advance to the next menu feature.Ringer Tone1. Press the flash/prog button until RINGER TONE shows in the display.2. Use the Caller ID/vol ( + or - ) button or the handset number pad to enter yourselection from Ringer Tone 1, 2, or 3. The default setting is “RINGER TONE 1”.3. Press the flash/prog button to confirm and to advance to the next menu feature.Factory DefaultThis feature allows you to restore the unit’s original features.1. Press the flash/prog button until DEFAULT shows in the display.2. Use the Caller ID/vol ( + or - ) button to scroll to YES. The default setting is “NO”.3. Press flash/prog to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone.Answering System SetupThis section shows you how to set up your answering system to record incomingcalls. Before you begin the setup, you must turn ON the answering system.• Press the ans on/off button to turn the answering system on and off. Themessage indicator lights when the answering system is on. The indicatoralternately flashes between CL (clock) and 0, indicating day/time programmingis needed and 0 messages are stored.NOTE: The answering system displays “- -” when it is off.Voice Time/Day Stamp1. Press and hold the day/check button to set the day of the week and thenrelease.2. Press the hour button to set the hour (a.m. or p.m.).3. Press the min button to set the minutes. When you press and hold the minbutton, the time advances in 5-minute intervals.4. Press and release the day/check button to review the day and time settings.Speaker VolumeUse the volume ( + or - ) buttons to adjust speaker volume to a comfortable level.Press volume ( + ) to increase the volume and VOLUME ( - ) to decrease thevolume. L8 is the maximum and L1 is the minimum level.Recording the Outgoing AnnouncementFor best results when recording, you should be about nine inches from the mic(microphone) opening to eliminate as much background noise as possible.1. Press and hold the announce button. Hold the button down until you finish theannouncement.2. Begin speaking after you hear the beep. You have up to two minutes ofrecording time.3. Release the button when you finish your announcement.If you choose not to record an outgoing announcement, a default announcementis played instead. To return to the default announcement after you have recordedyour own outgoing announcement, press the announce button and release itwhen you hear the beep.Sample Outgoing AnnouncementHi, this is (use your name here), I can’t answer the phone right now, so please leave your name,number and a brief message after the tone, and I’ll get back to you. Thanks.Reviewing the AnnouncementPress and release the announce button to review your outgoing announcement.• If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone line,ensure the installation of this product does not disable your alarm equipment. If youhave questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephonecompany or a qualified installer.2 Rights of the Telephone CompanyShould your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm the telephonenetwork, the telephone company shall, where practicable, notify you thattemporary discontinuance of service may be required. Where prior notice is notpracticable and the circumstances warrant such action, the telephone companymay temporarily discontinue service immediately. In case of such temporarydiscontinuance, the telephone company must: (1) promptly notify you of suchtemporary discontinuance; (2) afford you the opportunity to correct the situation;and (3) inform you of your right to bring a complaint to the Commission pursuant toprocedures set forth in Subpart E of Part 68, FCC Rules and Regulations.The telephone company may make changes in its communications facilities,equipment, operations or procedures where such action is required in theoperation of its business and not inconsistent with FCC Rules and Regulations. Ifthese changes are expected to affect the use or performance of your telephoneequipment, the telephone company must give you adequate notice, in writing, toallow you to maintain uninterrupted service.Interference InformationThis device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
