Extra Handset and Recharge Cradlewith Call-Waiting Caller ID for Use withModels 25825, 25826 and 25895User’s GuideEQUIPMENT APPROVAL I NFORMATIONYour telephone equipment is approved for connection to the PublicSwitched Telephone Network and is in compliance with parts 15 and68, FCC Rules and Regulations and the Technical Requirements forTelephone Terminal Equipment published by ACTA.1 Notification to the Local Telephone CompanyOn the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, amongother information, the US number and Ringer EquivalenceNumber (REN) for the equipment. You must, upon request,provide this information to your telephone company.The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you mayconnect to your telephone line and still have all of these devicesring when your telephone number is called. In most (but not all)areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one lineshould not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices youmay connect to your line as determined by the REN, you shouldcontact your local telephone company.A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premiseswiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable FCCPart 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A complianttelephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It isdesigned to be connected to a compatible modular jack that is alsocompliant. Where prior notice is not practicableand the circumstances warrant such action, the telephonecompany may temporarily discontinue service immediately. Incase of such temporary discontinuance, the telephonecompany must: (1) promptly notify you of such temporarydiscontinuance; (2) afford you the opportunity to correct thesituation; and (3) inform you of your right to bring a complaintto the Commission pursuant to procedures set forth in SubpartE of Part 68, FCC Rules and Regulations.The telephone company may make changes in itscommunications facilities, equipment, operations or procedureswhere such action is required in the operation of its business andnot inconsistent with FCC Rules and Regulations. Wait until the handset charges properly, thenregister the handset to the base as described below.PROGRAMMING THE TELEPHONENOTE : If the battery is not installed or properly connectedinside the battery compartment, the handset displays “NOBATTERY” when it is placed in the base cradle.H ANDSET REGISTRATIONCAUTION: The extra handset must be registered before use.NOTE: This extra handset is only compatible with the GE 25825,25826 and GE 25895 series.NOTE: You must register the handset to the base of the 25825,25826 or 25895 prior to using the phone. During the registrationprocess, keep your handset near the base.When your handset displays:1. Press the prog/select button untilREGISTER? 1YES 2NO showsin the display.2. Use the cid /vol ( or ) buttons or the touch tone pad toselect1YES.NOTE: If you select 2NO, your handset is not registered andcannot be used.3. Press the prog/select button andHOLD BASE PAGE WAIT FOR BEEPandPRESS PROG KEY AFTER BASE BEEP shows in the display.If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio ortelevision reception, which can be determined by turning theequipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct theinterference by one or more of the following measures:• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna (that is, the antennafor radio or television that is “receiving” the interference).• Reorient or relocate and increase the separation between thetelecommunications equipment and receiving antenna.• Connect the telecommunications equipment into an outlet on a circuitdifferent from that to which the receiving antenna is connected.If these measures do not eliminate the interference, please consultyour dealer or an experienced radio/television technician foradditional suggestions. Whenthe base and the handset are powered up for the first time, thehandset automatically registers with the base and verifies thesecurity code. Press and hold the page/int button on the base of Model 25895 orthe page button on the base of Model 25825 or 25826 until youhear a long beep.5. Press the prog/select button on the handset, andREGISTER........shows in the display.6. When registration is complete, the handset displaysHANDSET #REGISTERED for 2 seconds and then HS displays“ENTER NAME”.NOTE : Registration takes approximately one minute if morethan one handset is being registered.H ANDSET N AME1. Use the touch-tone keypad to enter the name (up to 15characters).More than one letter is stored in each of the number keys. Forexample, to enter the name Bill Smith, press the 2 key twice for theletter B. Briefly pause and the cursor moves to the next field. Pressthe 4 key 3 times for the letter I. Briefly pause and the cursor movesto the next field. Press the 5 key 3 times for the first letter L. Wait for1 second. The cursor moves to the next field. Press the 5 key 3 timesfor the second letter L, press 1 key to add a space between the firstand last name. Press the 7 key 4 times for the letter S. Briefly pauseand the cursor moves to the next field. Press the 6 key once for theletter M. Briefly pause and the cursor moves to the next field. Pressthe 4 key 3 times for the letter I. Briefly pause and the cursor movesto the next field. Press the 8 key for the letter T. Briefly pause and thecursor moves to the next field. Press the 4 key twice for the letter H.NOTE: If you make a mistake press the delete/redial button tobackspace and erase the wrong character(s).NOTE: Press prog/select once to skip this step and exit tostandby screen.NOTE: Press the exit button on the handset once to keep theprevious setting and return to standby mode.2. To minimize or prevent such interference, thebase of the cordless telephone should not be placed near or on topof a TV, microwave ovens, or VCR.
