In most (but not all)areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one lineshould not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices youmay connect to your line as determined by the REN, you shouldcontact your local telephone company.A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premiseswiring and telephone network must comply with the applicableFCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. If you have questions aboutwhat will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephonecompany or a qualified installer.2 Rights of the Telephone CompanyShould your equipment cause trouble on your line which mayharm the telephone network, the telephone company shall, wherepracticable, notify you that temporary discontinuance of servicemay be required. Where prior notice is not practicable and thecircumstances warrant such action, the telephone company maytemporarily discontinue service immediately. In case of suchtemporary discontinuance, the telephone company must: (1)promptly notify you of such temporary discontinuance; (2) affordyou the opportunity to correct the situation; and (3) inform you ofyour right to bring a complaint to the Commission pursuant toprocedures set forth in Subpart E of Part 68, FCC Rules andRegulations.The telephone company may make changes in itscommunications facilities, equipment, operations or procedureswhere such action is required in the operation of its business andnot inconsistent with FCC Rules and Regulations. If these changesare expected to affect the use or performance of your telephoneequipment, the telephone company must give you adequatenotice, in writing, to allow you to maintain uninterrupted service.FCC RF R ADIATION EXPOSURE S TATEMENTThis equipment complies with FCC RF radiation exposure limits setforth for an uncontrolled environment. This equipment should beinstalled and operated with a mininum distance of 20 centimetersbetween the radiator and your body. This transmitter must not be co-located or operated in conjunction with any other antenna ortransmitter.For body worn operation, this phone has been tested and meets theFCC RF exposure guidelines when used with the belt clip suppliedwith this product. Use of other accessories may not ensurecompliance with FCC RF exposure guidelines.• Close the battery compartment by pushing the cover up until itsnaps into place.• Place the handset in the charging cradle. The charge indicatorturns on to indicate the battery is charging.• Allow the handset to charge for 16 hours prior to registration toGE Models 21018, 21028 or 21098. If you don't properly charge thephone, battery performance is compromised.NOTE: If the battery is not properly installed in the handset, orif the battery pack is not properly connected to the jack insidethe battery compartment. "NO BATTERY" shows in the displaywhen the handset is placed in the charging cradle.IMPORTANT: After you place the handset in the cradle thedisplay shows "CHARGING...", then, "SEARCHING...", then"HANDSET NEEDS REGISTRATION" alternately. Wait until thehandset charges properly, then register the handset to the base asdescribed below.PROGRAMMING THE TELEPHONEH ANDSET REGISTRATIONCAUTION: The extra handset must be registered before use.NOTE: This extra handset is only compatible with the GEModels 21018, 21028 and 21098 series.During the registration process, keep your handset near the base.I NTERFERENCE I NFORMATIONThis device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. This telephone has been designed to be simple touse, however, you can reach its full potential more quickly by taking afew minutes to read this instruction book. This telephone is amultifunction product for use with Call Waiting and Caller ID servicesavailable from your local telephone company.Your Call Waiting Caller ID phone allows you to:• view the name and telephone number of a caller while you are onthe phone (Call Waiting Caller ID).• identify callers before you answer the phone.• view the time and date of each incoming call.• record up to 40 Caller ID messages sequentially in each handsetand the base.3. The handset number (1 to 4) is assigned. You may also give thehandset a specific identifying name.H ANDSET N AME1. Use the touch-tone keypad to enter the name (up to 15 characters).More than one letter is stored in each of the number keys. Forexample, to enter the name Bill Smith, press the 2 key twice forthe letter B. Briefly pause and the cursor moves to the next field.Press the 4 key 3 times for the letter I. Briefly pause and thecursor moves to the next field. Press the 5 key 3 times for thesecond letter L. Briefly pause and the cursor moves to the nextfield. To minimize or prevent such interference, thebase of the cordless telephone should not be placed near or on topof a TV, microwave ovens, or VCR. Plug the charge cradle power supply into an electrical outlet.2. Install the handset battery.NOTE: You must connect the handset battery before use.• Push down on the top of the battery compartment cover (locatedon the back of each handset) and remove the cover.• Lift the battery pack and connect it's plug to the jack inside thecompartment.NOTE: It is important to maintain the polarity (black and redwires) to the jack inside the compartment as shown in theillustration.
