EPSON Stylus COLOR 900/900NChapter 2 Operating Principles372.2.3 Pump/ASF Motor and Switching MechanismThe pump/ASF switching mechanism switches the motor’s torquebetween the auto sheet feeder and the pump mechanism. The pump/ASF motor supplies torque, and a solenoid is used as the switchingtrigger..Figure 2-3. Pump/ASF Switching MechanismTo drive the ASF unit, the pump/ASF motor transmits torque throughthe planetary gear set to the ASF transmission gear. At this time, thedrive motor may turn either clockwise or counterclockwise. However, when the motor turns counterclockwise, the planetary gear set wouldrotate downward if unchecked. To keep the gears engaged, thesolenoid latch holds them in place. When the pump mechanism needs to be driven, the motor turnscounterclockwise and the solenoid is momentarily activated, letting theplanetary gear set swing downward and engage the pump transmissiongear. After the gears engage, the solenoid latch holds the planetarygear set in place.Pump/ASFmotorPumptransmissiongearReductiongearPlanetarygearsetSolenoidASFtransmissiongearASFtransmissiongearPump/ASFmotorPlanetarygearsetSolenoidPumptransmissiongearDriving the ASF Unit Driving the Pump Mechanism
