11ASSEMBLYFuel RecommendationsUse automotive gasoline (unleaded or low leaded to minimize combus-tion chamber deposits) with a minimum of 87 octane. Gasoline withup to 10% ethanol or 15% MTBE (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) can beused. Never use an oil/gasoline mixture or dirty gasoline. Avoid gettingdirt, dust, or water in the fuel tank. DO NOT use E85 gasoline.• Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine stopped. Do notsmoke or allow flames or sparks in the area where the engine isrefueled or where gasoline is stored.• Do not overfill the fuel tank. After refueling, make sure the tankcap is closed properly and securely.• Be careful not to spill fuel when refueling. Spilled fuel or fuel vapormay ignite. If any fuel is spilled, make sure the area is dry beforestarting the engine.• Avoid repeated or prolonged contact with skin or breathing of vapor.Adding FuelWARNINGUse extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremelyflammable and the vapors are explosive. Never fuel the machineindoors or while the engine is hot or running. Extinguish cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other sources of ignition.1. Be sure engine is outdoors and in a well-ventilated area.2. Clean area around the fuel fill cap and remove the fuel fill cap.3. Using an approved red GASOLINE container, add fuel slowly, beingcareful to avoid spilling.4. Fill the tank until the fuel reaches the “fuel full” indicator mark. SeeFigure 10.Fuel Level IndicatorTop ViewFigure 105. Replace the fuel cap and tighten securely. Wipe up spilled fuelbefore starting engine. If fuel is spilled DO NOT start engine. Movemachine away from area of spillage. Avoid creating any source ofignition until fuel vapors are gone.ADJUSTMENTSClutch CableCheck the adjustment of the clutch cable as follows:1. Position the tiller so the front counterweight is against a solidobject, such as a wall.2. With the gear selection lever in NEUTRAL, start the engine. Referto Starting the Engine in the Operation section.3. Standing on the right side of the tiller, examine the belt (inside thebelt cover). It should not be turning.4. If the belt turns without the clutch control engaged, unthreadthe upper nut and adjust it by unthreading lower nut a few turnsclockwise (when standing in the operator’s position) and thenretighten the upper nut against the cable bracket. See Figure 11.Figure 11Upper NutLower Nut5. Now move the shift lever to the FORWARD position.6. Carefully engage the clutch by squeezing clutch lever against thehandle. The wheels should spin.7. If the wheels do not spin with the tiller in forward, loosen theupper nut and adjust by tightening the cable a few turns counter-clockwise (when standing in the operator’s position) and thenretighten the upper nut against cable bracket. See Figure 9.8. Recheck both adjustments, and readjust as necessary.9. After tilling, if the tines stop moving, re-adjust the cables.NOTE: A secondary cable adjustment is available if you reach thepoint that additional adjustment is needed. See the Service andMaintenance section for secondary adjustment instructions. |
