If the weeds or grass are tall andthick, operate the trimmer at a slowerwalking speed.• Frequently clean the underside of thetrimmer to remove any grass build up.Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.• For best results and longer lastingline, use the ends of the line to do thecutting. This is easily done by movingslowly through very thick and heavyweeds.• Use the left side of trimmer when trim-ming along fences, walls, flowerbedsand other such objects.• If trimmer lines become too short, it willtake longer to complete the job. If trim-mer lines are worn to less than half theiroriginal length, they should be replaced.See “TO REPLACE TRIMMER LINE” inthe Maintenance section of this manual.• Trimmer head contact with concrete, as-phalt or other hard surfaces may causepremature wear of the ball on bottom oftrimmer head.IMPORTANT:• Check oil level before each use. Add oilif needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours ofoperation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more often underdusty, dirty conditions.ADD GASOLINE• Fill fuel tank to bottom of tank fi ller neck.Do not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regularunleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline. Pur-chase fuel in quanti ties that can be usedwithin 30 days to assure fuel freshness.CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels(called gasohol or using ethanol ormethanol) can attract moisture whichleads to separation and formation of acidsduring storage. Acidic gas can damagethe fuel system of an engine while instorage. To avoid engine problems, thefuel system should be emptied beforestorage of 30 days or longer. Drainthe gas tank, start the engine and let itrun until the fuel lines and carburetorare empty. Use fresh fuel next season.See Storage Instructions for additionalinformation. Never use engine orcarburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil orfuel. Hold upper handle firmly and pullstarter handle quickly. Do not allowstarter rope to snap back.NOTE: In cooler weather it may benecessary to repeat priming steps. Inwarmer weather overpriming may causefl ooding and engine will not start. If youdo flood engine, wait a few minutes beforeattempting to start and DO NOT repeatpriming steps.TO STOP ENGINE• To stop engine, move throttle controllever to STOP position.TO START ENGINE1. To start a cold engine, push primer three(3) times before trying to start. Use afi rm push. This step is not usually neces-sary when starting an engine which hasalready run for a few minutes. |
