16PROBLEM CAUSE CORRECTIONTROUBLESHOOTING - See appropriate section in manual unless directedto a Sears Parts & Repair Centre.Does not start 1. Dirty air filter. 1. Clean/replace air fi lter.2. Out of fuel. 2. Fill fuel tank.3. Stale fuel. 3. Empty fuel tank and refi llwith fresh, clean gasoline.4. Water in fuel. 4. Empty fuel tank and refi llwith fresh, clean gasoline.5. Spark plug wire is 5. Connect wire to spark plug.disconnected.6. Bad spark plug. 6. Replace spark plug.7. Throttle control lever not 7. Move throttle lever to FASTin correct position position.(if equipped).Loss of power 1. Dirty air fi lter. 1. Clean/replace air fi lter.2. Buildup of grass, leaves, 2. Broken line retainer clip. 2. Replace string carrier plateassembly.3. Incorrect size of 3. Use .155 diametertrimmer line. trimmer line.13ChassiscoverScrewTO REMOVE/REPLACE TRIMMER HEADDRIVE BELT1. Remove screw at front of chassiscover.SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTSWARNING: To avoid serious injury, before performing any service and adjustments:1. Stop engine.2. Make sure the rotating lines and all moving parts have completely stopped.3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come intocontact with plug.Debris shield screwsEnginepulley2. Lift cover up and away from trimmer.3. Remove the two (2) screws on sides oftrimmer securing the debris shield.4. Turn trimmer on its side with carbu re torand fuel cap up.5. Remove the two (2) screws on under-side of trimmer securing the debrisshield.6. Slide the debris shield rearward andremove.7. Remove belt from engine pulley oncrankshaft.Handle knobUpperhandle8. Remove belt from trimmer head pulley.9. Note the position of the control cableand idler return spring, then removeidler assembly from chassis and re-move belt and idler from trimmer.10. Remove belt from idler assembly byre mov ing bottom belt keeper and idlerpulleys.11. Assemble new belt, idler pulleys andbottom belt keeper to idler bracket.Tighten pulley bolts securely.NOTE: Be sure belt is inside top beltkeeper on idler assembly.12. Position belt and idler assembly intrimmer, reconnect idler spring and as-semble idler to chassis.13. Install belt around trimmer head pulleyand engine pulley.14. Replace debris shield and tighten thefour (4) screws securely.15. Replace chassis cover and tightenscrew securely.Always use Craftsman replacement partsto assure proper fit and long life.TRIMMERTO ADJUST TRIMMING HEIGHTSee “TO ADJUST TRIMMING HEIGHT” inthe Opera tion section of this manual.TO ADJUST HANDLEThe upper handle may be adjusted to dif-ferent height positions.1. Loosen handle knob only enough toallow the upper handle to pivot to thedesired position.2. Tighten handle knob securely.NOTE: The handle knob and bolt may bereversed for left handed operation. |
