To Start The EngineCAUTIONSee "Don't Ovedoad Generator".Start generator and let engine stabilize before connectingelectrical loads.Connect electrical loads in OFF position, then turn ONfor operation.Turn electrical loads OFF and disconnect from generatorbefore stopping generator.Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.Follow start instruction steps in numerical order:1. Make sure unit is on a level surface.IMPORTANT: Failure to start and operate unit on alevel surface will cause the unit not to start or shutdown during operation.2. Turn fuel valve to "On" position. Fuel valve handleshould be vertical (pointing toward ground) for fuelto flow.Fuel Valve is shownin the On position3. Place choke lever in "Choke" position./4. Set rocker switch to "On" position.Rocker Switch isshown in On position5. Grasp recoil handle and pull slowly until slightresistance is felt. Then pull rapidly to start engine.WARNINGWhen starting engine, pull cord slowly until resistance isfelt and then pull rapidly to avoid kickback.NEVER start or stop engine with electrical devicesplugged in and turned on,iMPORTANT: if engine floods, place choke lever in"Run" position and crank until engine starts.16. Move choke lever to "Run" position a shortdistance at a time over several seconds in warmweather or minutes in cold weather. Let enginerun smoothly before each change. Operate withchoke in"Run" position.NOTE: If engine starts after 3 pulls but fails to run, orif unit shuts down during operation, make sure unit ison a level surface and check for proper oil level incrankcase. This unit may be equipped with a low oil)rotection device.WARNINGDO NOT touch hot surfaces,Allow equipment to coo! before touching.The generator must be at bast 5 feet from structures havingcombustible wails and/or other combustible materials.Keep at least 3 feet of clearance on al! sides of generatorfor adequate cooling, maintenance and servicing.In the State of California a spark arrester is required bylaw (Section 4442 of the California Public ResourcesCode), Other states may have similar laws. Federal lawsapply on federal lands. If you equip the muffler with aspark arrester, it must be maintained in effective workingorder,You can order a spark arrester through yourauthorized Sears service dealer,Connecting E_ectrica_ Loads• Let the engine stabilize and warm up for a fewminutes after starting.• DO NOT connect 240 Volt loads to 120 Voltreceptacles.• DO NOT connect 3-phase loads to the generator.• DO NOT connect 50 Hz loads to the generator.• Plug in and turn on the desired 120 Volt AC, singlephase, 60 Hertz electrical loads.• DO NOT OVERLOAD THE GENERATOR. See"Don't Overload Generator".Stopping the Engine1. Turn off and unplug all electrical loads from unit.NEVER start or stop engine with electrical devicesplugged in and turned on.2. Let engine run at no-load for two minutes tostabilize unit's internal temperatures.3. Move rocker switch to "Off" position.4.
