NOTE: While theengine isreachingthe compressioncycle,you may hear a "clanking"noise. Thisnoiseiscausedby theimpellerflailspivotingand fallingintoplace and IS normal, This noise will continueuntilltheimpeller reaches full speed.• Pull the rope with a rapid, continuous, full armstroke while keeping a firm grip on the starterhandle.• - Continuing to keep a firm grip on the starterhandle, let the rope rewind slowly. Do not let thestarter handle snap back against the eye bolt onthe handle. Repeat, if necessary, until enginestarts. Additional priming may be necessary.• Move throttle controlto IDLE position for a fewminutes to warm up the engine. Move it back tofast when running.• ALWAYS keep the throttle control in the Fastpostion when operating the chipper-shreddervacuum.NOTE: Engine may run very slowly for the first five toten seconds after it has been started until the impellergains momentum and allows the engine to reach itstop RPM.NOTE: To idle smoothly, a new engine may require 3to5 minutes of running at above the slow idle speed.The idle speed has been adjusted for proper runningafter thisbreak-in period.Stopping the Engine• Move throttle control lever to STOP position.• Disconnect spark plug wire and move away fromthe spark plug to prevent accidental starting whilethe equipment is unattended.Adjusting Nozzle Height• The nozzle door height adjustment levers havefive positionsettings and are found each side ofthe nozzle door. See Figure 10. The nozzle doorheight should be adjusted according to theconditions.• Slide the height adjustment lever forward orbackward for adjusting the nozzle door upwardsor downwards. See Figure 10.WARNING: Keep your hands, feet andany loose clothingclear of the nozzle anytime the engine is running, When theengine is running, a vacuum is beingcreated in the nozzle which can draw inloose clothing.WARNING: Never make any adjustmentson the nozzle while the engine is running.HeightPosition;lide this leverto adjust nozzledoor heightNozzle DoorFigure 10NOTE: Raise the nozzle height to vacuum a thicklayer of leaves; lower the nozzle height for smootherlawns.Operation of yourChipper-Shredder VacuumYour chipper-shreddervacuum is designed to chipsmall tree branches and twigs,shred leaves andvacuum foliage and other lawn debris. Forconvenience in operation, your Craftsman chipper-shredder vacuum is equipped with a drive clutchcontrol allowing it to "self-propel."WARNING: The impeller (chipping/shredding mechanism) is rotating at alltimes when the engine is running.WARNING: Keep your hands away fromthe nozzle opening and NEVER place yourhands or arms inside of the chipperchutewhen the engine isrunning. Doing socouldresult in serious personal injury.IMPORTANT: Your chipper-shredder vacuum isequipped with a s_fety switch at the front left portionof the impeller housing.The met-altab on"_henozzlemust depress this switchfor the engine to start. Becertain the nozzle is properly in place beforeattempting to startthe unit. See Figure 4 on page 6.WARNING: Always survey the area to bevacuumed thoroughlybefore operating thechipper-shrsdder vacuum. Clear the areaof any obstructionssuch as toys, dogchains, etc. Running over such anobstructioncan result in personal injuryaswell as damage to the chipper-shreddervacuum.• Do not vacuum up anythingother than normalyard waste such as leaves or pine needles.10 |
