Safety Goggles are avail-able at Sears retail stores.To reduce the risk of electric shock, thisappliance has a polarized plug (one bladeis wider than the other). This plug will fit ina polarized outlet only one way. If the plugdoes not fit fully in the outlet, reverse theplug. If it still does not fit, contact a quali-fied electrician to install the proper outlet.Do not change the plug in any way.After you plug the power cord into the out-let, turn the unit on by pushing the switchfrom position "O" to position "1".The sym-bols used on the motor cover are interna-tional =On & Off' symbols. The filter must be in correct position atall times to reduce the dsk of leaks andpossible damage to vac.2. When using your vac to pick up veryfine dust, it will be necessary for you toempty the drum and clean the filter atmore frequent intervals to maintainpeak vac performance.NOTE: A dry filter is necessary to pick updry material. If you use your vac to pick updust when the filter is wet, the filter willclog quickly and be very difficult to clean.3. If your filter is wet but you need to usethe vac to pick up dry material, you canquickly dry the filter by running the vacwithout hose attached for about 10 min-utes. The clean air rushing through thevac will help dry the filter.The optional Craftsman Fine Particle Fil-ter, stock number 9-17916 will do a bet-ter job stopping the very fine particlesthan the 9-17816 filter. This filter will stop99.99% of all particles as small as .75micron.Vacuuming Liquids1. When picking up small amounts of liq-uid the filter may be left in place.2. When picking up large amounts of liq-uid we recommend that the filter beremoved. If the filter is not removed, itwill become saturated and misting mayappear in the exhaust.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,the filter must be dried to reduce therisk of possible mildew and damage tothe filter.8
