10STARTING / STOPPINGSTARTING INSTRUCTIONS1. Check the oil level in the crankcase. Refer to Checkingthe Oil Level ( p.12).2. Turn switch to ON position (Fig.14).NOTE: If your unit is equipped with a spring loaded typeON/OFF switch, it will always remain in the ON position.3. Place trimmer firmly on the ground or a very sturdywork surface. Make sure cutting head is clear of allobjects. Make sure all bystanders are a minimum of50 feet (15m) away. Do not attempt to start near pilotlights or any open flame. Do not smoke. Grasp thestarter rope handle with one hand and the handlepole with the other hand ( Fig.13).4. With the unit in the starting position, do not squeezethe throttle control (Fig.14). Then pull the ropesmoothly and briskly. The engine should start. A coldengine should start with 3-5 pulls. A warm engineshould start on the first pull.NOTE: On the very first use, it may take extra pulls to fillthe fuel system with propane.5. Squeeze the throttle control slightly to warm up theengine for 15 to 30 seconds. In cold weather, movethe throttle slowly until the engine warms up for 30 to60 seconds.NOTE: When starting the engine in very hot or coldconditions it may be necessary to squeeze the throttlecontrol while pulling the starter rope.Fig. 13STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS1. Release your hand from the throttle control. Allow theengine to cool down by idling.2. If your unit is equipped with a spring loaded ON/OFF switch, press and hold the button on OFF untilthe unit stops. Otherwise, push the switch to the offposition.3. When done using the trimmer for the day, disconnectthe propane canister from the unit.WARNING:Avoid accidental starting. Make sure you are in the startingposition when pulling the starter rope (Fig. 13). To avoidserious injury, the operator and unit must be in a stableposition while starting. Ifexperiencing starting difficulties under regular conditions,squeeze the throttle control, then push and hold the FastIdle lock forward while releasing the throttle trigger. Thenstart the unit.
