Replace damaged parts.• Check for fuel leaks. Make sure all fasteners are in placeand secure. Replace parts that are cracked, chipped,or damaged in any way. Do not operate the unit withloose or damaged parts.• Carefully inspect the area before starting the unit.Remove all debris and hard or sharp objects such asglass, wire, etc.SPARK ARRESTOR NOTENOTE:For users on U.S. Forest Land and in the states ofCalifornia, Maine, Oregon, and Washington. All U.S.Forest Land and the state of California (Public ResourcesCodes 4442 and 4443), Oregon, and Washington requireby law that certain internal combustion engines operatedon forest brush and / or grass-covered areas be equippedwith a spark arrestor, maintained in effective workingorder, or the engine be constructed, equipped andmaintained for the prevention of fire. Check with withyour state or local authorities for regulations pertainingto these requirements. Failure to follow these require-ments could subject you to liability or a fine. This unit isis factory equipped with a spark arrestor.All information, illustrations, and specifications in thismanual are based on the latest production informationavailable at the time of printing. We reserve the right tomake changes at any time without notice.WARNING:When servicing, use only identicalreplacement parts. Use of any otherparts may create a hazard or productdamage.• Be aware of the risk of injury to the head, hands andfeet.• Clear the area of children, bystanders, and pets. Ata minimum, keep all children, bystanders, and petsoutside a 50 feet (15 m.) radius; there still may be a riskto bystanders from thrown objects. Bystanders shouldbe encouraged to wear eye protection. If you areapproached, stop the unit immediately.• Use only Craftsman red medium thickness (85908)or black wide thickness (85909) replacement lines.Never use metal reinforced line, wire or rope.These can break off and become dangerous projectiles.• Squeeze the throttle control and check that it returnsautomatically to the idle position. Make all adjustmentsor repairs before using unit.• Do not operate this unit when tired, ill, under theinfluence of alcohol, drugs or medications.• This unit is intended for adult use only. Do not allowchildren or untrained individuals to use the unit.• Familiarize yourself with the controls and proper use ofyour trimmer prior to using.
