23Handling PrecautionsDo not attempt to disassemble or modify themachine.Some parts inside the machine are subject tohigh-voltages and temperatures. Take adequateprecautions when inspecting the inside of themachine. Since it may result in unexpectedaccidents or injuries, do not perform anyoperation unless otherwise specified in themanual.Be careful not to spill liquid or drop any foreignobjects, such as paper clips or staples inside themachine. If a foreign object comes into contactwith electrical parts inside the machine, itmight cause a short circuit and result in a fire orelectrical shock.If there is smoke, or unusual noise, immediatelyturn the main power switch OFF, disconnectthe power cord from the power outlet, andthen call your local authorized Canon dealer.Using the machine in this state may cause a fireor electrical shock. Also, avoid placing objectsaround the power plug so that the machine canbe disconnected whenever necessary.Do not turn the main power switch OFF oropen the front covers while the machine is inoperation. This may result in paper jams.Do not use flammable sprays, such as spray glue,near the machine. There is a danger of ignition.This machine generates a slight amountof ozone etc. during normal use. Althoughsensitivity to ozone etc. may vary, this amount isnot harmful. Ozone etc. may be more noticeableduring extended use or long production runs,especially in poorly ventilated rooms. It isrecommended that the room be appropriatelyventilated, sufficient to maintain a comfortableworking environment, in areas of machineoperation.For safety reasons, turn OFF the control panelpower switch of the machine when it will notbe used for a long period of time, such asovernight. As an added safety measure, turnOFF the main power switch, and disconnect thepower cord when the machine will not be usedfor an extended period of time, such as duringconsecutive holidays.Use a modular cable that is shorter than 9' 10" (3meters).Use a USB cable that is shorter than 9' 10" (3meters).
