36 Using the ScannerUsing the ScannerDocumentsDocument TypesThis scanner can scan documents of the following sizes:LengthHeightHeight: 2.0" to 4.2" (50 mm to 106 mm)Length: 3.2" to 9.0" (80 mm to 228 mm)Thickness: 0.003" to 0.008" (0.08 mm to 0.20 mm)0.004" to 0.005" (0.10 mm to 0.14 mm) with Double FeedDetection enabledWeight: 17 to 40 lb bond (64 to 157 g/m2)20 to 28 lb Bond (81 to 105 g/m2) with Double Feed DetectionenabledIMPORTANTA document must meet the following criteria to be scannable:• Always make sure that the ink on a document is dry before scanning it.Scanning documents before the ink is dry can make the scanning glassand rollers dirty, resulting in lines on images.• Always clean the rollers after scanning a document written in pencil.Scanning documents that are written in pencil or similar material canmake the rollers dirty, which can then transfer the dirt to subsequentdocuments.• When scanning a two-sided document that is printed on thin paper, theimage on the opposite side of each page may show through. Adjust thescanning intensity in the application software before scanning thedocument.• Exercise caution when scanning perforated documents. Documents with aragged edge along the perforation may jam and become damaged.• Exercise caution when scanning documents with a glossy finish orcolored background, since they may be misdetected as double feddocuments. If misdetection of double feeds occurs often, turn off DoubleFeed Detection. (See p. 46).
