159Appendix10Using an Externally Mounted Flash (Sold Separately)High-Power Flash HF-DC1This flash is used to supplement the camera's built-in flash when thesubject is too far away for proper illumination. Use the followingprocedures to affix the camera and High-Power Flash to the supportingbracket.Please read the instructions accompanying the flash along with thisexplanation.z When in M shooting mode the high-power flash will not fire.z The flash charge time will lengthen as the battery charge getsweaker. Always set the power/mode switch to [OFF] when youfinish using the flash.z Be careful not to touch the flash window or sensor windows withyour fingers while the flash is in use.z In outdoor settings in the daylight, the flash may not detectillumination from the camera's built-in flash and may not fire.z The flash may fire if another flash is being used in closeproximity.z The flash may not fire if there are no reflective items in itsmetering field.z For continuous shooting, although the flash fires for the firstshot, it does not fire for subsequent shots.z If the battery usage time has considerably diminished, wipe thebattery terminals well with a dry cloth as the terminals may besoiled with oil from one's skin or other dirt.z If the battery is used in cold regions (0 °C /32 °F or lower), you arerecommended to carry a spare lithium battery (CR123A or DL123).Keep the spare battery warm in your pocket until immediatelybefore using it, and exchange it frequently with the battery in theflash.Continued on next pageTripod SocketBracket(Comes with the flash)
