If allowed to stand forlong periods of time on stainless steel, it will causepitting.The racks, flame tamers, and flavor bars can all be3.removed for cleaning and are dishwasher safe.BurnersSpiders and small insects occasionally inhabit or makenests in the burner tubes, obstructing the gas flow.Sometimes this results in a type of fire in and aroundthe gas tubes called “flashback”. To reduce the risk offlashback, this procedure should be followed at leastonce a month or when your grill has not been used foran extended period of time.IMPORTANT: Prior to starting this procedure, turn OFFall of the gas control knobs, shut off the fuel supply,and disconnect the fuel line.CautionDo not use Instant Rust Out, WD-40,or Sheila Shine near food or on foodpreparation surfaces as it is a healthhazard. It does not stain, corrode, or rust as easilyas ordinary steel (it stains less), but it is not stain-proof. If not properly protected and maintained, it cancorrode, pit, and discolor.FireHazardNEVER spray WD-40 or Sheila Shinenear an open flame! These productsare extremely flammable while in theiraerosol forms.ImportantBecause salt will accelerate rust andcorrosion, grill or barbecue islandowners who live near the beach need tobe diligent in maintaining their stainlesssteel hardware. You need to clean andpolish your stainless steel frequently,apply a protectant, and ensure waterdoes not collect and puddle.CautionAlthough nitric acid (also called aquafortis) can be effective for rust removal, itis a highly corrosive chemical. Because ofthe potential for injury or damage to yourstainless steel, we do not recommendusing nitric acid.There are two methods of rust removal werecommend:Rust removal with Instant Rust Out:1Spray exterior stainless steel surfaces with InstantRust Out. Let it stand for about 30 seconds, then wipewith a clean cloth. Apply a second time if necessary.Instant Rust Out will leave a white residue which canbe rinsed off with water. Wipe the grill dry with a cleancloth and apply Sheila Shine or WD-40 as a surfaceprotectant.Rust removal with WD-40 or Sheila Shine:2Spray exterior stainless steel surfaces with WD-40 orSheila Shine and wipe down with a dry cloth or papertowel until surface is free of rust. If there is significantrust or corrosion, use a Scotch-Brite scrubber.Both of these products will act as a surface protectantand help resist smudges, stains, and rust.
