CADILLAC2010–11 STSPRECAUTIONSWarning: Batteries produce explo-sive gases, contain corrosive acid, andsupply levels of electrical current highenough to cause burns. Therefore, to re-duce the risk of personal injury whenworking near a battery: Always shieldyour eyes and avoid leaning over thebattery whenever possible; do not ex-pose the battery to open flames orsparks; do not allow the battery electro-lyte to contact the eyes or skin; flush im-mediately and thoroughly anycontacted areas with water, and getmedical help.Warning: Unless directed otherwise,the ignition and start switch must be inthe OFF or LOCK position, and all elec-trical loads must be OFF before servic-ing any electrical component. Discon-nect the battery ground cable toprevent an electrical spark should atool or equipment come in contact withan exposed electrical terminal. Failureto follow these precautions may resultin personal injury and/or damage to thevehicle or its components.For vehicles equipped with OnStar®(UE1) with Back Up Battery, the back upbattery is a redundant power supply toallow limited OnStar® functionality in theevent of a main vehicle battery power dis-ruption to the VCIM (OnStar® module).Do not disconnect the main vehicle bat-tery or remove the OnStar® fuse with theignition key in any position other thanOFF. Retained Accessory Power (RAP)should be allowed to time out or be dis-abled (simply opening the driver doorshould disable RAP) before disconnectingpower. Disconnecting power to theOnStar® module in any way while theignition is ON or with RAP activated maycause activation of the OnStar® Back UpBattery (BUB) system and will dischargeand permanently damage the BUB. Oncethe BUB is activated, it will stay on until ithas completely discharged. The BUB isnot rechargeable and, once activated, theBUB must be replaced.BATTERYSide PostREMOVAL1. Record radio anti-theft code and sta-tion presets.2. Turn off all lamps and accessories.3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.4. Disconnect battery ground cable (2)from battery, Fig. 1.5. Disconnect battery positive cable (1)from battery, Fig. 2.6. Remove windshield wiper arms,Fig. 3. Remove lefthand upper hoodassist rod from assist rod ball studs toremove driver side wiper arm.7. Remove air inlet grille panel, Fig. 4.8. Depress locking tabs (1) on side of bat-tery heat shield, Fig. 5.9. Remove battery heat shield from bat-tery, Fig. 6.10. Remove battery retainer bolt and re-tainer, Fig. 7.11. Remove battery from vehicle.INSTALLATION1. Install battery to vehicle.2. Install battery retainer and bolt, Fig. 7.Torque bolt to 13 ft. lbs.3. Install battery heat shield, Fig. 6. En-sure openings in heat shield arealigned with battery terminal bosses.4. Install air inlet grille panel, Fig. 4.5. Install windshield wiper arms, Fig. 3.Torque wiper arm nuts to 26 ft. lbs.6. Connect battery positive cable (1) tobattery, Fig. 2. Torque battery cablebolt to 13 ft. lbs.7. Connect battery ground cable (2) tobattery, Fig. 1. Torque battery cablebolt to 13 ft. lbs.8. Perform power sunroof calibration asfollows:a. Turn ignition switch to RUN posi-tion.b. Turn power sunroof switch toclosed position. After sunroof fullycloses and motor stops, press andhold in switch for three seconds.c. Turn power sunroof switch to tilt po-sition. After sunroof reaches tilt po-sition and motor stops, press andhold in switch for three seconds.d. Turn power sunroof switch to fullopen position. After sunroof is fullyopen and motor stops, press andhold in switch for three seconds.e. Turn power sunroof switch toclosed position. After sunroof fullycloses and motor stops, press andhold in switch for three seconds.9. Perform power window calibration asfollows:a. Repeat these steps for each win-dow.b. Turn ignition switch to RUN posi-tion.c. Press power window switch todown position. After window is in fulldown position, press and holdswitch in down position for threeseconds.d. Press power window switch to upposition. After window is in full upposition, press and hold switch inup position for three seconds.10. Perform heat and A/C control head cal-ibration as follows:a. Turn ignition switch to RUN posi-tion.b. Simultaneously press Auto and Offbuttons, located on heat and A/Ccontrol head, for at least five sec-onds.c. After initiation, stepper motors willcycle from one stop to other. Youmay hear motors cycling while cali-brating.11. Reset all preset and theft codes previ-ously recorded to radio.12.
