37Initial SettingsIn order to record audio, you must connect your instruments and mics to the VS-700. Here are some typical ways tomake connections.* The VS-700 provides mic preamps and compressors on each of the eight audio inputs (INPUT 1–8). You can produce afatter sound by applying a compressor to the input signal from the mic or other audio source. Check the wiring ofyour device before connecting it.When using a condenser mic that requires a balanced (XLR) connection thatsupplies phantom power, set [+48] button ON (PHANTOM ON).When using a dynamic mic etc. that has a phone plug, set [+48] button OFF(PHANTOM OFF).You must leave the phantom power turned off unless you’ve connected a condenser mic thatrequires a phantom power supply. Supplying phantom power to a dynamic mic or audio playbackdevice will cause malfunctions. For details on the specifications of your mic, refer to the owner’smanual for your mic.Connecting a Guitar or BassConnecting Synthesizers or Audio EquipmentFor a guitar or bass,select the “Hi-Z” setting.If you want to connect a guitar or bass directly, connect it to theAUX IN jack located on the front panel of the VS-700C console.If you want to connect equipment such as a synthesizer or effects processor, useaudio cables to connect the output connectors of such devices to the VS-700R’sINPUT jacks (1, 2).The eight audio inputs (INPUT 1–8) contain phantom power supplies.
