It also allowsthe unit to automatically start and exercise theengine every seven days with the setting of theexercise timer (see the Setting the Exercise Timersection).2. “OFF” Position – This switch position shuts downthe engine. This position also prevents automaticoperation.3. “MANUAL” Position – Set the switch to MANUALto crank and start the engine. Transfer to standbypower will not occur unless there is a utility fail-ure.Figure 3.1 – 8kW Generator Control PanelSETEXERCISESYSTEM READYLOW BATTERYLOW OIL PRESSUREHIGH OIL TEMPERATUREOVERSPEEDRPM SENSOR LOSSOVERCRANK With the switch set to AUTO, the engine maycrank and start at any time without warning.Such automatic starting occurs when utilitypower source voltage droops below a presetlevel or during the normal exercise cycle. Toprevent possible injury that might be causedby such sudden starts, always set the switch toOFF and remove the fuses before working on oraround the generator or transfer switch. Then, place a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag on the genera-tor panel and on the transfer switch.Figure 3.2 – 10/12/14/16/17 & 20kW GeneratorControl PanelENTERECS3.1.2 SETTING THE EXERCISE TIMERThis generator is equipped with an exercise timer.Once it is set, the generator will start and exerciseevery seven days, on the day of the week and at thetime of day specified. During this exercise period, the unit runs for approximately 12 minutes and thenshuts down. Transfer of loads to the generator out-put does not occur during the exercise cycle unlessutility power is lost.8kWA switch on the control panel (see Figure 3.1) per-mits selection of the day and time for the system toexercise. At the chosen time, perform the followingsequence to select the desired day and time of daythe system will exercise. Remember seasonal timechanges affect the exercise settings.1. Verify that the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch is setto AUTO.2. Press and hold the “Set Exercise” switch for sev-eral seconds. All the red LED’s will stop flashingimmediately and the generator will start.3. The generator will start and run for approximate-ly 12 minutes and then shut down. The exerciseris now set to run at this time of day each week.Example: If the “Set Exercise” pressed on Saturdayafternoon at 2:00 p.m., the generator will start andexercise for approximately 12 minutes every Saturdayat 2:00 p.m.Section 3 — OperationAir-cooled Generators
