437.0 INSTALLATION9. If you are using the Base, check thatnothing is on top of the base, or anythingthat will interfere with the proper latchingof the Safety Seat to the Base. Placethe Safety Seat onto the Base andpush down until the Safety Seat latchessecurely to the Base and you hear aclick. Pull upward on the Safety Seat tocheck that the Safety Seat is securelylatched onto the base. (Fig. 43-1)If the Safety Seat does not securely latch onto the Base, theSafety Seat will NOT provide Protection for your child. DO NOTuse the Safety Seat with the Base if it does not securely latch intoplace. Please call Baby Trend at 1-800-328-7363 for assistance.7.3 Installation of the Base using LATCHLower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) System isdesigned to make installation of child safety seats easier byrequiring child safety seats to be installed without using thevehicle’s seat belt system. By September 1, 2002, two rear seatingpositions of all cars, mini vans and light trucks will come equippedwith lower child safety seat anchor points located between avehicle’s seat cushion and seat back. Also by September 1, 2002,all child safety seats will have two attachments which will connectto the vehicle’s lower anchor points. Together, the lower anchorsand upper tethers make up the LATCH system. Rear-facing infantseats do not make use of the upper tether.Fig. 43-1
