Chapter 1 Hardware Configuration 171.11 Cache MemorySince the second level cache has been embedded into thePentium ® II CPU, you do not have to take care of eitherSRAM chips or SRAM modules. The built-in second levelcache in the Pentium II yields much higher performance thanthe external cache memories. The cache size in the PentiumII CPU is either 256 KB or 512 KB. Normally, for worksta-tion and server application, the 256 KB version is enough.However, if your system is for heavy duty applications, the512 KB version will help a lot. Specifically for our Pentium IIbased SBC, the Pentium II has another version that providesmuch better data security if combined with the DRAM ECC.Check with your vendor for various Pentium II models.
