Power Management40 User’s GuideHard Disk Standby ModeThe hard disk enters standby mode when there are no diskread/write operations within the period of time specified bythe Hard Disk Timeout value. In this state, the powersupplied to the hard disk is reduced to a minimum. Thehard disk returns to normal once the computer accesses it.Standby ModeThe computer consumes very low power in Standby mode.Data remain intact in the system memory until the batteryis drained.There are four ways to enter Standby mode:q Pressing the Standby hot key Fn-F3q If the waiting time specified by the Standby Timeoutvalue or the operating system elapses without anysystem activityq Closing the display coverq When the computer is about to enter Hibernation mode(e.g., during a battery low condition), but theHibernation file is invalid or not presentThe following signals indicate that the computer is inStandby mode:q The buzzer beepsq The Standby indicator lightsNote: If the computer beeps but does not enter Standbymode after pressing the Standby hot key, it means theoperating system will not allow the computer to enter thepower-saving mode.Warning: Unstored data is lost when you turn off thecomputer power in Standby mode or when thebattery is drained.
