Print Server User’s Guide24Logical PrintersLogical Printers can be used to create a “Virtual” printer. For example, to create aLandscape printer, you could define a Logical Printer as follows:Pre-string Printer Control codes to switch the printer to LandscapemodePost-string Printer Control codes to reset the printer, restoring the defaultsettings.Another logical printer could be used to print Unix-format text files properly, byconverting Unix-style LF (Line Feeds) to DOS-style LF/CR (Line Feed, CarriageReturn) pairs.In the NetWare Print Server mode, the Print Server supports 3 logical printers formodels with 1 parallel port, and 8 logical printers for other models.Configuring NetWarePCONSOLE must be used to create new (logical) printers and assign print queues tothe printers. When creating logical printers, be sure to select printer numbers greaterthan 7 from the Configured Printer listing. In NetWare, all printer numbers greaterthan 7 are logical printers. Remember that selecting printer 8 corresponds to Logicalprinter L1, selecting printer 9 corresponds to Logical printer L2, and so on up toprinter 15 which corresponds to Logical printer L8.Configuring the Print ServerTo define pre-string, post-string, and the physical output port of a logical printer,perform the following steps:1. Run the PSCONFIG program.2. Select Change Configuration.3. Select Logical Printer Configuration and set the following items for each logicalport. Logical Printers are numbered from L1 to L3 for models with a singleparallel port, and L1 to L8 for other models).Physical Port Select the physical port for this Logical Printer (P1 to P3for parallel ports, SP for the serial port).String Before Job The printer control string (in Hex) to be sent to theprinter before each print job.String After Job The printer control string (in Hex) to be sent to theprinter after each print job.Convert LF toCR+LFIf ON, LF (line feed) characters are changed to CR+LF(carriage return + line feed). If OFF, no conversion isdone.The maximum size of a printer control string is 15 characters. |
