Using the zones of the AGA eR7The hotplatesThe hotplates are operated manually, make sure thestandby button is on then just press the touch controlpanel of the hotplate you need and a flashing red lightwill appear, when the hotplate reaches its full preset heatit will become solid red.The boiling plate is on the left hand side and thesimmering plate is on the right hand side of the AGAeR7. The boiling plate is the hottest with the simmeringplate being the cooler of the two. They both have electricelements embedded into the cast iron which heat upin approximately 11 and 8 minutes respectively. Thehotplates can be used completely independently fromthe ovens. This means the AGA eR7 differs from the classic AGA heatstorage cooker in that they can be used for the entirecooking time of appropriate dishes because the designkeeps the hotplates at a constant heat, whereas theclassic AGA cooker continues to cook on a falling heat sofor these we recommend starting on the hotplate(s) thentransferring to the ovens, this can be done with the AGAeR7 but is not necessary. For instance, if making a pastadish with sauce on the AGA eR7, it can all be done on thehotplates. The whole hotplate area can be used for cooking andseveral pans can be accommodated on a single plate atany one time. The hotplates are set very slightly abovethe top plate to avoid accidental scratching if the pans arepulled to one side. DO NOT drag the utensils from oneplate to another as the enamel will suffer! The stainless steel insulated covers are brought downover the hotplates when they are not in use. When thehotplates are ‘on’ the insulated covers will be warm. Westrongly advise not to put anything such as kettles, saucepans or baking tins directly onto the insulatedcovers because they will show any scratches – invest in apair of chef’s pads to protect the surface if the covers areto be used as resting places!Keep the hotplates clear of any burnt on food or crumbsby brushing with the wire brush, supplied with your AGA.Cleaning details can be found on “Caring and cleaning”page 44.34
