Keep holding theknob pressed in to let the gas through to the burner for aboutten seconds.If, when you let go of the control knob, the burner goes out,then the FSD has not been bypassed. Turn the control knobto the OFF position and wait for one minute before you tryagain, this time making sure to hold in the control knob forslightly longer.Adjust the flame height to suit by turning the knob. On thisrange the low position is beyond high, not between high andoff. The ‘LO’ marks the low position.Adjust the flame height to suit by turning the knob counter-clockwise (Fig.2-3).If a burner flame goes out, turn off the control knob andleave it for one minute before relighting it.Make sure flames are under the pans (Fig.2-4). For safetyreasons, adjust the flames so that they do not extend beyondthe edge of the cooking utensil. Using a lid will help thecontents boil more quickly.Large pans should be spaced well apart.Pans and kettles with concave bases or down turned baserims should not be used (Fig.2-5).Simmering aids, such as asbestos or mesh mats, areNOT recommended (Fig.2-6). They will reduce burnerperformance and could damage the grates.Avoid using unstable or misshapen pans that may tilt easilyand pans with a very small base diameter e.g. milk pans,single egg poachers (Fig.2-7).The minimum pan diameter recommended is 4¾” (12cm) forthe outer burners and 6 3/8” (16cm) for the center burner.Igniting Cooktop Burners without ElectricityIf there is a power failure the cooktop burners can be lit witha match.1. Hold a burning match ½” from the burner head, keepingyour hand as far horizontally away from the burner aspossible.2. Push and turn the burner control knob to HI/lightingposition. As soon as the burner flame lights move yourhand away. With your other hand, keep holding theknob pressed for a few seconds so that the burner safetydevice can ‘sense’ the heat of the flame.3.
