CARE AND CLEANING6.1 Cleaning the interiorBefore using the appliance for the firsttime, wash the interior and all internalaccessories with lukewarm water andsome neutral soap so as to remove thetypical smell of a brand-new product,then dry thoroughly.Do not use detergents or abra-sive powders, as these will dam-age the finish.CAUTION!Unplug the appliance before car-rying out any maintenance oper-ation.This appliance contains hydrocar-bons in its cooling unit; mainte-nance and recharging musttherefore only be carried out byauthorized technicians.6.2 Periodic cleaningThe equipment has to be cleaned regu-larly:• clean the inside and accessories withlukewarm water and some neutralsoap.• regularly check the door seals andwipe clean to ensure they are cleanand free from debris.• rinse and dry thoroughly.Do not pull, move or damageany pipes and/or cables insidethe cabinet.Never use detergents, abrasivepowders, highly perfumed clean-ing products or wax polishes toclean the interior as this will dam-age the surface and leave astrong odour.Clean the condenser (black grill) and thecompressor at the back of the appliancewith a brush. This operation will improvethe performance of the appliance andsave electricity consumption.Take care of not to damage thecooling system.Many proprietary kitchen surface clean-ers contain chemicals that can attack/damage the plastics used in this appli-ance. For this reason it is recommendedthat the outer casing of this appliance isonly cleaned with warm water with a littlewashing-up liquid added.After cleaning, reconnect the equipmentto the mains supply.6.3 Defrosting the refrigeratorFrost is automatically eliminated fromthe evaporator of the refrigerator com-partment every time the motor compres-sor stops, during normal use. The de-frost water drains out through a drainhole into a special container at the backof the appliance, over the motor com-pressor, where it evaporates.It is important to periodically clean thedefrost water drain hole in the middle ofthe refrigerator compartment channel toprevent the water overflowing and drip-ping onto the food inside.Use the special cleaner provided, whichyou will find already inserted into thedrain hole.38 www.aeg.com
