Never operate a chain saw when youare fatigued, ill, or upset, or under theinfluence of medication that maymake you drowsy, or if you are underthe influence of alcohol or drugs.2. Use safety footwear, snug fittingclothing and eye, hearing and headprotection devices.Use the vibration-proof glove.3. Keep the saw chain sharp and thesaw, including the AV system, wellmaintained. A dull chain will increasecutting time, and pressing a dullchain through wood will increase thevibrations transmitted to your hands.A saw with loose components or withdamaged or worn AV buffers will alsotend to have higher vibration levels.4. Always use caution when handlingfuel. Wipe up all spills and then movethe chain saw at least 3 m from thefueling point before starting the en-gine.5. Eliminate all sources of sparks orflame (i.e. smoking, open flames, orwork that can cause sparks) in theareas where fuel is mixed, poured,or stored.6. Do not smoke while handling fuel orwhile operating the chain saw.7. Do not allow other persons to be nearthe chain saw when starting or cut-ting. Keep bystanders and animalsout of the work area. Children, petsand bystanders should be a minimumof 10 m away when you start or oper-ate the chain saw.8. Never start cutting until you have aclear work area, secure footing, anda planned retreat path from the fall-ing tree.9. Always hold the chain saw firmly withboth hands when the engine is run-ning. Use a firm grip with thumb andfingers encircling the chain sawhandles.10. Keep all parts of your body away fromthe saw chain when the engine is run-ning.11. Before you start the engine, makesure the saw chain is not contactinganything.12. Always carry the chain saw with theengine stopped, the guide bar andsaw chain to the rear, and the muffleraway from your body.13. Always inspect the chain saw beforeeach use for worn, Ioose, or dam-aged parts. Never operate a chainsaw that is damaged, improperlyadjusted, or is not completely andsecurely assembled. Be sure that thesaw chain stops moving when thethrottle control trigger is released.14. All chain saw service, other than theitems listed in the Owner’s Manual,should be performed by competentchain saw service personnel. (E.g.,if improper tools are used to removethe flywheel, or if an improper tool isused to hold the flywheel in order toremove the clutch, structural damageto the flywheel could occur whichcould subsequently cause the fly-wheel to disintegrate.)15. Always shut off the engine beforesetting it down.16. Use extreme caution when cuttingsmall size brush and saplings be-cause slender material may catch thesaw chain and be whipped towardyou or pull you off balance.17. When cutting a limb that is under ten-sion, be alert for spring- back so thatyou will not be struck when the ten-sion in the wood fibers is released.18. Never cut in high wind, bad weather,when visibility is poor or in very highor low temperatures. Always checkthe tree for dead branches whichcould fall during the felling operation.19. Keep the handles dry, clean and freeof oil or fuel mixture.
