6• Once the required quantity of coffee has beensupplied, press the coffee button a second time tostop supply.• Remove cup(s) from the machine.• Take the filter holder off the ring nut and disposeof the used pod.TIPS ON HOW TO PREPARE ANEXCELLENT ESPRESSO COFFEE• To make good espresso coffee, the cleanliness ofthe machine and the right temperature arefundamental.• Make sure that the filter, the filter holder and thering nut are kept completely clean.• Unless you are away for long periods, keep themachine turned on and the filter holder in thering nut to keep it hot.• Heat the coffee cups by filling them with hotwater (press the coffee button). This alsoeliminates some of the water left in the boiler aswell as heats the filter holder.• When you have finished using the machine cleanthe filter holder by running the machine withoutcoffee. This method eliminates any residueswhich could alter the flavour of the coffee thenext time you use the machine.• For an excellent espresso, let the machine run for20-25 seconds. The time required depends on thetexture of the ground coffee, the quantity ofcoffee used and how firmly the coffee is pressed.The machine is already calibrated to make goodquality coffee. If necessary the grinding textureand the quantity of ground coffee dosed can beadjusted (see paragraph "First Use") to obtain therequired strength and flavour.HOT WATER• Place the coffee cup below the steam spout(ref.16), using the handle to move the spout so asnot to cause burns.• Turn the steam knob (ref.1) anti-clockwise.• Press the hot water button (ref.5). Release thebutton when you have the required amount ofhot water and close the steam knob (ref.1).STEAM• Steam is used to make cappuccino coffee (seechapter "Recipes").• Keep the steam button (ref.6) pressed and waituntil the red indicator light (ref.9) goes out.• Place a receptacle beneath the steam spout andslowly turn the steam knob (ref.1) anti-clockwise.• When you have finished with the steam closethe steam knob by turning anti-clockwise(ref.1) and press the steam button (ref.6).• If the steam comes into contact with a coolsurface on the surrounding furniture or outsideof the appliance, e.g. a trim, it will condenseand produce water droplets. This is quitenormal and not caused by a fault with themachine. To prevent discolouration, regularlywipe away condensation from surfaces.RECIPESITALIAN CAPPUCCINOThis is a normal espresso coffee with steam-heatedmilk that gives the coffee a milder flavour and arich, frothy topping. Serve in a large cup.Pour cold milk into a tall jug and heat it using thesteam spout if your machine has one. Add only thefroth to the espresso coffee, to do this either tilt thejug slightly rocking it backwards and forwardswhile you pour or use a spoon to scoop off thefroth.You can also add a dusting of cocoa powder totaste.
