USAGE GUIDELINES16 REGAL 5790 MATERIALS USAGE GUIDEPreprinted PapersMaterial Description & ExpectationsThis category encompasses a wide variety of materials. Offsetprinted Letterhead papers and Xerographic Prints, within therecommended paper weight range, will feed reliably in the 5790.Copies produced on laser, ink jet, or dot matrix printers, carbonlesspaper, raised/engraved copies, and preprinted forms, using variousinks (with and without MICR), have not been tested and should beconsidered in the not recommended category.Recommended MaterialsOffset printed Letterhead and Xerographic Printsfrom 16 lbbond (60 gsm) to 90 lb index (163 gsm).Steps for Success1 Ensure paper is within the 5790’s paper weight range.2 For best feeding performance, run all preprinted sheets from thePaper Tray Bypass. If paper is heavier than 28 lb bond (105gsm), run it in the Heavy Paper Mode.3 Allow preprinted sheets to dry completely before loading theminto the copier/printer.4 The preprinted ink should have a low conductivity and will have towithstand the high fuser temperature of the 5790 (155° C/310° F).5 Keep the preprinted sheets free from curl. Ensure that sheets areflat or have a slight lead edge downcurl when loaded into thebypass paper tray.6 To minimize jams, store preprinted sheets carefully. Avoiddamaging the edges or corners of the paper and protectpreprinted sheets from humid conditions that will lead to imagequality problems.Hints, Tips & Testing ResultsXerox testing has shown the following:• Some inks from preprinted materials may cause deletions, offsetting or contamination. Select a surface-drying , laser-compatible ink designed for reproduction on color copier/printers. An example is TuffText by Vanson. Your offset printerrepresentative may be able to specify an ink with similarcharacteristics.• Two-sided copying/printing onto preprinted materials is notrecommended. In many cases, deletions will occur if youattempt to copy an image onto an area on side 2 that is directly12 3. . .
