TheVIP-802 is not intended for direct or indirectconnection to the public telephone network.When used with a customer premise telephonesystem such as a key system or PBX system,these units are interfaced to the system via afully protected page port or system centraloffice port, which is a fully protected interfacedevice. Also, the host system must beconfigured to disallow central office trunkconferencing in order to prevent indirectconnection to the public network.Precautionary DesignationsFCC InformationThis equipment has been tested and found tocomply with the limits for a Class A digitaldevice, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules.These limits are designed to providereasonable protection against harmfulinterference when the equipment is operated ina commercial environment. This equipmentgenerates, uses and can radiate radiofrequency energy and if not installed and usedin accordance with the instruction manual, maycause harmful interference to radiocommunications. Operation of this equipmentin a residential area may cause harmfulinterference in which case the user will berequired to correct the interference at his ownexpense.MountingThe VIP-802 is designed for wall, table or rackmounting.Table: Provided with the VIP-802 are four rubberstick on feet. Peel these feet off their carrierbacking and place at the four corners of the bottomof the unit.Wall: Using the template and instructions provided,secure the VIP-802 to the wall.Rack: Following the assembly drawing, attach thetwo mounting ears to the VIP-802 unit. Using rackscrews, mount the VIP-802 in an available 1U rackslot.Power ConnectionsThe preferred method of powering a VIP-802 is viaa power over Ethernet switch meeting the 802.3afspecification. The Valcom VIP-908 Ethernet switchwhich is ideal for this purpose and will power up to7 VIP-800 series devices.If the rear panel barrel connector is used for power,the preferred power supply is a Valcom VIP-324.Make all required signal connections beforeapplying power to the unit. If powering via 802.3af,make sure all signal connections via the backpanel are made then connect the VIP-802 to theEthernet switch.If power is supplied via the barrel connector, makesure all signal connections are secure. Attach theunit to the network via the front panel RJ-45Ethernet connector. Apply power by plugging thepower supply into the VIP-802 via the barrelconnector on the rear of the VIP-802.Network ConnectionThe VIP-802 has one CAT-5 RJ-45 networkconnector on the front panel.Use one of he supplied CAT-5 patch cables toconnect the VIP-802 to an Ethernet switch. If theEthernet switch is 802.3af compliant the VIP-802will draw power from it. |
