5.2.4 ROTOR DRIVE5.2.4.1 BELTS TIGHTENINGWhen the rotor drive is engaged, an idler pulley ismoved into position to tighten the belts and transmitpower. As the belts wear and stretche, it will be nec-essary to adjust the turnbuckle to maintain propertension. To set belts tension, follow this procedure:1. Clear the area of bystanders, especially smallchildren.2. Stop engine, shut off fuel supply lever, removeignition key (electric models only), disengage alldrives and wait for all moving parts to stop.3. Engage the rotor drive control.4. Check the tension of the belts by applying asmall force to the center of the belt span. It candeflect 1/2 to 1 inch (12 to 25 mm) in either direc-tion.5. If the belt deflection is greater than 1 inch (25mm) or the drive slips during operation, the idlershould be adjusted to provide more movement.6. Turn the turnbuckle on the control lever to pro-vide more movement on the idler pulley (fig. 25).7. Recheck the belts tension. If the turnbuckledoes not provide sufficient adjustment to tightenthe belts, the belts will have to be replaced.5.2.4.2 BELTS REPLACEMENTTo replace the belts, follow this procedure1.
