To reduce the potentialfor injury, comply with these safety instructions and always payattention to the safety alert symbol, which means CAUTION,WARNING or DANGER — “personal safety instruction.” Failureto comply with the instruction may result in personal injury.WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personalinjury when using electric lawn mowers, always follow these basicsafety precautions.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONSSafe Operating PracticesThis machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and ofthrowing objects. Always follow all safety instructions to avoidserious injury or death.This machine is designed for cutting and mulching grass or, whenequipped with a grass bag, for catching cut grass. Any use forpurposes other than these could prove dangerous to you or tobystanders.General Operation• Read this manual carefully before operating the machine.Become familiar with the controls and proper use of themachine. Never allow children under 16 years of age tooperate the machine. Never allow adults to operate machinewithout proper instructions.• The operator of the machine is responsible for keepingeveryone, especially children and pets, away from areaof operation. The operator is responsible for accidents orhazards occurring to other people or their property.• Thoroughly inspect area where the machine will be used,and remove sticks, stones, wire, and debris that could bepicked up and thrown by machine. Watch for foreign objectswhile mowing. Objects struck by the blade can cause severeinjuries to people.• Wear long pants and substantial shoes. Do not operatethe machine while wearing open-toed shoes, jewelry, looseclothing or when barefoot. Use rubber gloves and footwearwhen working outdoors.• Keep all guards, shields, safety devices, grass catcher oroptional side discharge chute in place. Repair or replacedamaged parts, including decals. Never tamper with safetydevices. Check their proper operation regularly.• The motor and blade are designed to stop within 3 secondsafter releasing the control bail. Ensure that the control bailfunctions properly before each use of machine. If the bladedoes not stop within 3 seconds, or if there is a grinding orscraping metal-to-metal noise when you release the controlbail, contact an Authorized Toro Service Dealer for properOn/Off and blade-brake adjustment or replacement.• Before using, always visually inspect to see that the blades,blade fasteners, and cutter assembly are not worn ordamaged. Replace worn or damaged blades and fastenersin sets to preserve balance.• Use only those accessories and attachments designedfor this machine. Using any accessory or attachment notdesigned for this product may increase the risk of injury. Seethe instructions for the proper operation and installation ofaccessories.Safe Operating Practices• Do not insert the key into the plug receptacle until you areready to mow.• Do not operate the machine in gaseous, explosiveatmospheres. Normal sparking of the motor could ignitefumes.• Start the motor carefully according to instructions, with feetwell away from the blade.• Use the right appliance—Do not use the machine for any jobexcept that for which it is intended.• Stay alert— Watch what you are doing.
