Brake MaintenanceChecking the Parking Brake1. Engage the parking brake by pulling theparking-brake lever toward you, until you feeltension.2. If you do not feel tension when pulling theparking-brake toward you within 11.4 to 16.5 cm(4-1/2 to 6-1/2 inches) from the “P” symbol onthe dash, then you need to adjust the parkingbrake; refer to Adjusting the Parking Brake(page 51).Adjusting the ParkingBrake1. Ensure that the parking brake is disengaged.2. Using jack stands, lift the rear of the machine;refer to Lifting the Machine (page 29).3. Using 2 wrenches, hold the adjusting post on thecaliper in place with 1 wrench, and loosen thejam nut 1/4 turn with the other wrench (Figure65).g034434Figure 651. Adjusting post 3. Caliper2. Jam nut4. While holding the adjusting post and the jamnut in place, turn the adjusting post in to tighten(Figure 65).Note: Perform this step until you feel drag onthe wheel.5. While holding the adjusting post and the jam nutin place, back off 1/4 turn (Figure 65).6. While holding the adjusting post and the jam nutin place, tighten the jam nut (Figure 65).7. Perform steps 1 through 6 to the other side.8. Verify that the parking brake is adjusted to theproper tension; refer to Checking the ParkingBrake (page 51).Note: If you cannot adjust the parking braketo the required tension, the brake pads maybe worn and need to be replace. Contact yourAuthorized Service Dealer for assistance.Checking the Brake-FluidLevelService Interval: Before each use or daily Check thebrake-fluid level before the motor isfirst used.Brake Fluid Type: DOT 31. Park the machine on a level surface.2. Engage the parking brake.3. Shut off the engine and remove the key.4.
