8. Verify that the parking brake is adjusted to theproper tension; refer to Checking the ParkingBrake (page 43).Note: If you cannot adjust the parking braketo the required tension, the brake pads maybe worn and need to be replace. Contact yourauthorized Toro distributor for assistance.Checking the Brake-FluidLevelService Interval: Before each use or daily Check thebrake-fluid level before the motor isfirst used.Brake Fluid Type: DOT 31. Park the machine on a level surface, engage theparking brake, shut off the machine, and removethe key.2. Raise the hood to gain access to themaster-brake cylinder and reservoir (Figure 53).g034314Figure 531. Filler neck (reservoir) 3. DOT 3 brake fluid2. Reservoir cap3. Look at the outline of the fluid level at the side ofthe reservoir (Figure 54).Note: The level should be above the Minimumline.g002136Figure 541. Brake-fluid reservoir 2. Minimum line4. If the fluid level is low, perform the following:A. Clean the area around the reservoir capand remove the cap (Figure 53).B. Add DOT 3 brake fluid to the reservoir untilthe fluid level is above the Minimum line(Figure 54).Note: Do not overfill the reservoir withbrake fluid.C. Install the reservoir cap (Figure 53).5. Close the hood of the machine.Inspecting the BrakesService Interval: Every 100 hoursImportant: Brakes are a critical safety componentof the machine. Closely inspect them at therecommended service interval to ensure optimumperformance and safety.• Inspect the brake lining for wear or damage. If thelining (brake pad) thickness is less than 1.6 mm(1/16 inch), replace the brake lining.• Inspect the backing plate and other componentsfor signs of excessive wear or deformation.Replace any deformed components.• Check the brake-fluid level; refer to Checking theBrake-Fluid Level (page 44).44
