31MaintenanceGeneral Air CleanerMaintenance1. Check air cleaner body for damage which couldpossibly cause an air leak. Replace a damaged aircleaner body.2. Service the air cleaner filter when air cleaner indicator(Fig. 33) shows red or every 400 hours (more frequentlyin extreme dusty or dirty conditions). Do not overservice air filter.1Figure 331. Air cleaner indicator3. Be sure cover is sealing around air cleaner body.Servicing Air Cleaner1. Pull latch outward and rotate air cleaner covercounter–clockwise. Remove cover from body (Fig. 34).Clean inside of air cleaner cover.12Figure 341. Air cleaner latch 2. Air cleaner cover2. Gently slide filter (Fig. 35) out of air cleaner body toreduce the amount of dust dislodged. Avoid knockingfilter against air cleaner body.1Figure 351. Filter3. Inspect filter and discard if damaged. Do not wash orreuse a damaged filter.Cleaning Air FilterA. Blow compressed air from inside to the outside ofdry filter element. Do not exceed 100 psi to preventdamage to the element.B. Keep air hose nozzle at least 2” from filter andmove nozzle up and down while rotating the filterelement. Inspect for holes and tears by lookingthrough the filter toward a bright light.4. Inspect new filter for shipping damage. Check sealingend of filter. Do not install a damaged filter.5. Insert new filter properly into air cleaner body. Makesure filter is sealed properly by applying pressure toouter rim of filter when installing. Do not press onflexible center of filter.6. Reinstall cover and secure latch. Make sure cover ispositioned with TOP side up.7. Reset indicator (Fig. 33) if showing red.Cleaning Radiator And ScreenTo prevent the engine from overheating, the screen andradiator must be kept clean. Normally, check the screen andradiator daily and, if necessary, clean any debris off theseparts. However, it will be necessary to check and clean thescreen and radiator frequently in extremely dusty and dirtyconditions.Note: If engine shuts off due to overheating, first check theradiator and screen for excessive buildup of debris.
