Useheavy gloves when handling the cutting reel orbedknife.Bedknife to Reel Adjustment1. Position mower on a flat level work surface. Makesure engine is OFF. Remove high tension lead from thespark plug. Remove reel contact by turning bedbar ad-justing screws counterclockwise (Fig. 12).2. Tilt mower back on handle to expose bedknife andreel.NOTE: Each time the bedbar adjusting screw is rotatedone click clockwise on the Flex 21, the bedknife moves0.0007 inch (0.018 mm) closer to the reel. DO NOTOVERTIGHTEN THE ADJUSTING SCREWS.3. On one end of the reel (Fig. 13):A. From the front and parallel to the bedknife, inserta long strip of newspaper between the reel and bed-knife.B. While slowly rotating the reel forward, turn bed-bar adjusting screw clockwise one click at a time untilthe paper is pinched lightly.C. A slight drag on the paper should result when thepaper is pulled.4. Check for light contact at the other end of the reel us-ing newspaper and adjust as required (Fig. 13).5. After the adjustment is accomplished, check to seeif the reel can pinch a strip of paper when inserted fromthe front and cut the paper when inserted at a right angleto the bedknife (Fig. 13).A. Paper should be cut with minimum contact be-tween the bedknife and the reel blades.NOTE: The Flex 21 will have slightly greater reel dragthan other Toro greens mowers due to the reel seal de-sign.B. Should excessive reel drag be evident, it will beeither necessary to backlap or reñgrind the reel andbedknife to achieve the sharp edges needed for pre-cision cutting (see TORO Sharpening Reel andRotary Mowers Manual, Form No. 80-300 PT).1.
