Cooling SystemMaintenanceCooling System Safety• Swallowing engine coolant can causepoisoning; keep out of reach from children andpets.• Discharge of hot, pressurized coolant or touchinga hot radiator and surrounding parts can causesevere burns.– Always allow the engine to cool at least 15minutes before removing the radiator cap.– Use a rag when opening the radiator cap, andopen the cap slowly to allow steam to escape.Cleaning the RadiatorScreenService Interval: Before each use or daily Clean ithourly if conditions are extremelydusty and dirty. To prevent the system from overheating, the radiatorscreen and radiator must be kept clean. Check andclean the screen and radiator daily or, if necessary, hourly. Clean these components more frequently industy, dirty conditions.1. Remove the radiator screen (Figure 43).2. Working from the fan side of the radiator, blowout the radiator with compressed air.g008426Figure 431. Radiator screen 2. Radiator3. Clean the screen and install it.Checking theEngine-Coolant LevelThe capacity of the cooling system is approximately3.2 L (3.3 US qt).Fill the cooling system with a 50/50 solution of waterand permanent ethylene glycol antifreeze. Checkthe level of the coolant at the beginning of each daybefore starting the engine.CAUTIONIf the engine has been running, thepressurized, hot coolant can escape andcause burns.• Do not open the radiator cap when theengine is running.• Use a rag when opening the radiator cap,and open the cap slowly to allow steam toescape.1. Park the machine on a level surface.2. Check the coolant level (Figure 44).It should be between the lines on the reservetank when the engine is cold.g008427Figure 441. Reserve tank3. If the coolant is low, remove the reserve tank capand add a 50/50 mixture of water and permanentethylene glycol antifreeze. Do not overfill.4. Install the reserve-tank cap.41
