Breaking in a New MachineNew engines take time to develop full power. Mower decksand drive systems have higher friction when they are new, placing additional load on the engine. Allow 40 to 50 hoursof break-in time for new machines to develop full power andperform at their best performance.Using the Rollover-ProtectionSystem (ROPS)WARNINGTo avoid injury or death from rollover: keep the rollbar in the fully raised, locked position and use theseat belt.Ensure that the seat is secured to the machine.WARNINGThere is no rollover protection when the roll bar isin the down position.• Lower the roll bar only when absolutelynecessary.• Do not wear the seat belt when the roll bar isin the down position.• Drive slowly and carefully.• Raise the roll bar as soon as clearance permits.• Check carefully for overhead clearances (i.e.,branches, doorways, electrical wires) beforedriving under any objects, and do not contactthem.Important: Ensure that the seat is secured to themachine.1. To lower the roll bar, apply forward pressure to theupper part of the roll bar.2. Pull both knobs out and rotate them 90 degrees so theyare not engaged (Figure 8).3. Lower the roll bar to the down position (Figure 8).Figure 81. ROPS knob 3. Roll bar in the uprightposition2. Pull the ROPS knob outand rotate it 90 degrees.4. Roll bar in the foldedposition4. To raise the roll bar, raise the roll bar to the operateposition and rotate the knobs so that they movepartially into the grooves (Figure 8).5. Raise the roll bar to the full upright position whilepushing on the upper roll bar so that the pins snap intoposition when the holes align with the pins (Figure 8).6. Push on the roll bar and ensure that both pins areengaged.Important: Always use the seat belt with the roll bar inthe raised position.18
