CAUTIONRaising the mower deck for service or maintenancerelying solely on mechanical or hydraulic jackscould be dangerous. The mechanical or hydraulicjacks may not be enough support or maymalfunction allowing the unit to fall, which couldcause injury.Do not rely solely on mechanical or hydraulic jacksfor support. Use adequate jack stands or equivalentsupport.1. Stop the machine and move the speed-control leverto the NEUTRAL position.2. Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, shut offthe engine, and wait for all moving parts to stop.3. Remove the electrical connection from the seat safetyswitch, located directly in front of the seat-switchassembly.4. Raise the frame and place on jack stands so that drivewheels can rotate freely.Note: You must make the neutral adjustment withthe drive wheels turning.5. Temporarily install a jumper wire across the terminalsin the connector of the wiring harness.6. Start the engine.7. Run the machine at least 5 minutes with thespeed-control lever at full forward speed to bring thehydraulic system oil up to operating temperature.8. Return the speed-control lever to the NEUTRALposition.9. To obtain the NEUTRAL position, adjust the left andright pump-control-rod linkages that connect thesteering control to the pump-control arms until thewheels stop or creep slightly in reverse (Figure 56).10. Adjust the left pump linkage by rotating thetracking-adjustment knob.11. Adjust the right pump linkage by using a wrench toturn the double nuts on the assembly (Figure 56)Figure 561. Rotate the tracking knobon left side.2. Rotate the double nuts onright side.12. Move the steering levers to the reverse position. Whileapplying slight pressure to the levers, allow the steeringlevers to return to NEUTRAL.Note: The wheels must stop turning or slightly creepin reverse.13. Shut off the engine and wait for all moving parts tostop.14. Remove the jumper wire from the wire-harnessconnector and plug the connector into the seat switch.15. Lower the machine from the jackstands.Aligning the PTO-Drive PulleyAlign the PTO-drive pulley for any of the followingconditions:• The blower has been removed or replaced.• The engine mounting bolts have been loosened or theengine has been moved or replaced.• The jackshaft mounting bolts have been loosened or thejackshaft has been moved or replaced.1. Stop the machine and move the speed-control leverto the NEUTRAL position.2. Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, shut offthe engine, and wait for all moving parts to stop.3. Remove the fuel-tank mounting nuts and swing outthe fuel tank.4. Verify that the blower is installed and tightly secured.5. Loosen the 4 engine mounting bolts.6. Unhook the pump-belt tension spring.7. Loosen the 4 jackshaft mounting bolts.8. Measuring from the blower pulley as a baseline, movethe engine and jackshaft until the rear surface of all 347
