Note: Similarly, squeezing the left wheel-clutch leverturns the machine to the left.Note: When you complete the turn, release thewheel-clutch lever. The drive engages both wheels(Figure 14).Figure 145. To stop the traction drive, release the traction-drivelever.Driving the Machine Rearward1. Place the speed-selector lever into the desiredreverse-speed range, making sure that the speedselector locks in the notch.2. To move rearward, engage the traction drive and slowlysqueeze the left traction lever to the handle.Note: Momentarily squeezing and releasing the left orright wheel-clutch lever allows for steering adjustmentsto keep the machine going in a straight line.Note: To turn right, squeeze the right wheel-clutchlever toward the handle. This disengages the drive tothe right wheel while the left wheel continues driving, and the machine turns to the right.Note: Similarly, squeezing the left wheel-clutch leverturns the machine to the left.Note: Squeezing both wheel-clutch levers simultaneouslydisengages the drive to both wheels. This enables you tomove the machine rearward without stopping to shift it into areverse gear. It also allows you to maneuver and transport themachine more easily when the engine is not running.Operating the BroomDANGERWhen the machine is in operation, contact withrotating or moving parts will severely injure handsand feet.• Before adjusting, cleaning, inspecting, troubleshooting, or repairing the machine, stopthe engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.Disconnect the wire from the spark plug andkeep it away from the plug to prevent someonefrom accidentally starting the engine.• Stay behind the handles and away from thebroom while operating the machine.• Keep face, hands, feet, and any other part ofyour body or clothing away from concealed, moving, or rotating parts.WARNINGContact with a rotating broom can result inserious personal injury or death to the operator orbystanders.• To remove an obstruction from the broom; referto Clearing a Clogged Broom (page 16).• Do not operate the machine if the broom drivelever is not functioning properly.
