TroubleshootingProblem Possible Cause Corrective Action1. The fuel tank is empty. 1. Fill the fuel tank with gasoline.2. The fuel-shutoff valve is closed. 2. Open the fuel-shutoff valve.3. The choke is not in the correct position. 3. Close the choke if the engine is cold;open the choke if the engine is warm.4. The air cleaner is dirty. 4. Clean or replace the air-cleanerelement.5. The spark-plug wire is loose ordisconnected.5. Install the wire on spark plug.6. The spark plug is pitted or fouled, orthe gap is incorrect.6. Install a new, correctly gapped sparkplug.7. There is dirt in the fuel filter. 7. Replace the fuel filter.The engine will not start, starts hard, orfails to keep running.8. Dirt, water, or stale fuel is in the fuelsystem.8.
